Details →Ambassador Signature, which its operator calls its latest addition, is a 39-cabin steel ship launched in 2023 that spends both days in Lan Ha and gives every cabin a balcony or terrace. Its sisters, Ambassador and a second Ha Long boat, stay in the main bay, so put the full ship name in the confirmation.
You will not walk onto this ship from a quay. You check in at 11:30 in the Ambassador lounge on the first floor of Ha Long International Cruise Port at Bai Chay, and at 12:10 you are taken out to the vessel by speedboat. Boarding on the Ha Long side and sailing to Lan Ha is ordinary for this operator, and the speedboat is worth knowing about if you travel with a walking stick or three hard cases. On the last morning you leave the cabin at 09:45 and are back at the port at 10:30.
The operator lists a spa, a piano lounge, a sun deck and a water slide off the side of the boat; spa treatments are charged.
Cabin size depends on the grade. The 18 Ambassador Balcony cabins on the main deck and the 17 Executive Balcony cabins on the second deck are 28 m². The two Balcony Suites and two Captain View Suites, also on the second deck, are 35 m².
The operator publishes a tariff and we read it on 11 August 2026, for the one-night trip, priced per cabin for two people:
Ambassador Balcony, $335. Executive Balcony, $353. Balcony Suite, $380. Captain View Suite, $426.
So the cheapest room works out at about $168 each for two sharing. Rates move with season and agent, which is why the date above matters more than the four figures do.
The tariff shows one thing we think is genuinely useful: the upgrades are cheap. The top suite is 27 per cent above the entry balcony, $91 in cash. If a suite was ever going to be worth the money, this is a rate sheet where the sum works.
The clearest complaint is the shore programme. A three-star guest praised the butler warmly and then wrote off the excursions: the fishing village was run down with little to look at, and the boat trip attached to it was over quickly. A two-star guest found the trip stressful rather than restful and described being processed along with a tour group. Set that beside the five-star reviews, which are almost all about the cabins, the food and named crew members, and the pattern is a good ship with an ordinary day out bolted onto it. One more thing on cost: the minibus transfer from Hanoi, which one guest praised, is a paid extra, not part of the fare; Origin Vietnam quoted $37 a guest for the round trip in August 2026.
Four meals on the one-night trip, two bottles of water a day, canapés, tai chi, the cooking demonstration, a bamboo-boat ride, entrance fees, on-board insurance, tax and service. The operator’s ship page also promises free-flow soft drinks. Alcohol, spa treatments, tips and the road from Hanoi are extra. So is kayaking: the operator’s Ambassador Signature programme, read on 14 October 2026, puts it under exclusions, and two listings read in August 2026 price it at VND 460,000 a kayak, two people to a kayak. There is a surcharge of $50 a person a night on 24 and 31 December and $30 over Tet and public holidays.
Read the rate type before you pay. The operator’s terms, which cover all its boats, say cancellation rules depend on the rate and are printed on the booking voucher; promotional and package rates are non-refundable, a no-show pays in full, and the operator accepts no liability for weather delays.
The two-night version is where the itinerary earns the difference in price. The core run is Viet Hai fishing village, reached by bicycle at 15:00 on the first afternoon, and the Bright and Dark caves at 07:00 the next morning. The middle day of the longer trip goes ashore on Cat Ba by bus, for a walk in the National Park, Trung Trang cave, lunch in a Cat Ba restaurant and the market or Cat Co beach, before a speedboat from Gia Luan pier brings you back at 15:00. Guests on the longer trip write about the walk and the caves. Guests on the one-night trip write mostly about the boat, and that tells you how much of the archipelago fits into a single night.
One reviewer booked this as a Ha Long trip, worked out on arrival that it was Lan Ha, and said the view from the deck looked the same to him. Fair enough. It is also a warning: if you specifically want the water in the photographs labelled Ha Long Bay, read how the three bays differ before you choose the boat rather than after.
Couples who want a balcony, decent food and a well-kept ship, who will pay the operator’s cabin rate with their eyes open, and who treat the excursions as something that happens rather than the reason for going. On that basis it holds up against the rest of the Lan Ha fleet.
Anyone whose trip depends on the shore programme, and anyone who wants the cheapest flexible booking: the low rates here are the non-refundable ones. The best-value list has other boats at this price.
The pier, the times, both programmes, the cabin grades with their sizes and counts, the inclusions and the terms are from the operator’s pages on ambassadorcruise.com, read on 6 August 2026; three listings give the same 39 cabins and two the same pier. The 2023 launch year and the steel hull are from listings read the same day. The tariff was read on 11 August 2026. Guest remarks are from Google reviews.
Chosen by price proximity within the same bay, computed from our dataset — not by commission. We add no booking fee to any of them.
Our read is that the ship is better than the day out that comes with it, and that the operator's own tariff is the price to plan around. Every one of the 39 cabins has a balcony, and the suites cost so little more that we would take one.

This is not our score. It is the aggregate across the listings we track, and shows where Ambassador Signature Cruise sits against the 108 boats we can score: a median of9.5 on 87 reviews. Scores in this bay cluster near the top (8–9.9), which is why we show you the review count as well.
That number is what we collected and read. The score beside it is the average the listings publish, computed on 178.
