Best Ha Long Bay cruises by 8,058 guest reviews

Of the 499 reviews we read for Stellar of the Seas, 496 gave it five stars and not one gave it a single star or two. That is the highest score of any boat with a record long enough to count, and it belongs to a boat that starts at $366 a person, two sharing, on its operator’s tariff read on 8 October 2026, the dearest of the 31 ranked boats that carry a price. The second and third places go to boats from $165 and $168.

How is the ranking built?

A boat needs at least 100 star-rated reviews that we have read ourselves, spread over at least twelve months, and 32 of our published boats pass. We have published pages for 92 boats, and 71 of them carry guest reviews we were able to collect. Thirty-seven carry at least 100, which is where we drew the line: three bad reviews move a 40-review boat’s five-star share by more than seven points, and a 300-review boat’s by one. Nine published boats below that line score near the top on records of between one and 66 reviews, too few to print as a score.

There is a second rule, added on 8 October 2026: a boat’s reviews must also run across at least twelve months, from the earliest one we read to the latest, so the score has been through a full cycle of seasons. Thirty-two boats pass both rules, and five wait on the second one: Amour, Aime’e, Athena Premium, Halora Nova and Victorious.

So the ranking below rests on 8,058 ratings, collected on 12 August 2026 for 27 boats, on 6 October 2026 for Hera Grand and on 10 October 2026 for Emeraude Classic, Erina, Genesis Regal and Syrena, sorted by the share that gave five stars, and where two boats print the same share, by the smaller one-and-two star share. Every count is a count of reviews we read, recounted on 16 October 2026. We never quote the review total printed on a listing, because on seventeen of these 32 boats that number is smaller than the number of reviews we actually hold.

The price column is what one person pays for two days and one night when two share the cheapest cabin: half that cabin’s one-night rate on the card each boat’s page uses. Most of those cards are listings read on 6 August 2026. Stellar of the Seas, Emeraude Classic, Ambassador Signature and Doria are priced from their operators’ own tariffs, Stellar’s read on 8 October, Emeraude Classic’s on 10 October, Ambassador Signature’s on 11 August and Doria’s on 10 August, while Orchid Trendy and Paradise Grand come from listing cards read on 8 October. Doris has no rate card we hold, so its price is on request.

Five boats have the reviews but not yet the year: Amour with 297, Aime’e with 138, Athena Premium with 115, and Halora Nova and Victorious with 100 each. Summer on the bay is storm season and winter is cold and often misty, and a record shorter than a year has seen only part of that cycle, so it cannot fairly sit beside a boat that has been through several years of both. We leave their scores out and do not rank them. Each of the five joins the table once its record covers a full year and still holds 100 reviews.

Read the price column against the five-star column and boats at the same price turn out to sit far apart. La Pandora and Aspira both start at $145 a person. One sits fourth with five bad reviews in 395; the other sits thirtieth with 22 bad reviews in 174. The same thing happens at $130, a floor shared by Renea in ninth with nine bad reviews in 259 and Victory Star in twenty-eighth with 17 in 239.

Do dearer boats score higher?

Only a little. Group the 31 boats that carry a price by what one person pays, two sharing, and below $300 the cheaper band does a little worse, by about a point on bad reviews and five on five-star reviews. Orchid Trendy alone accounts for about one of those five points. Doris, with its price on request, is left out. What a luxury cruise actually buys runs the same test up the price scale, and the most luxurious Ha Long Bay cruises ranks the boats at the top of it.

Of the reviews we read for the fifteen boats under $150, 5.8% gave one or two stars. For the fifteen boats from $150 to $300 the figure is 4.8%. That is a point, roughly one bad review in 17 against one in 21. The five-star shares sit further apart, 81.8% against 87.2%, and if you rank the 31 boats by price and then again by score, Spearman’s rank correlation between the two orders comes out at 0.25: dearer boats score a little higher on average, but the link is weak and plenty of boats break it. Two boats at the same price can be much further apart than the bands are. Nostalgia and Rosy both start at $155, and their five-star shares differ by more than 30 points.

The above-$300 band holds a single boat, so its 99.4% is Stellar of the Seas and nothing wider. Its operator’s own tariff, read on 8 October 2026, starts at $732 a cabin a night for a junior suite, which is where the $366 per person comes from. Two other published boats start above $300, Elite of the Seas at $402 on its operator’s tariff read on 10 August 2026 and Ginger at $423 on its operator’s rate page read on 14 October 2026. Neither has the review record this table requires, so both are left out of it.

Best under $150 a person

La Pandora scores highest of the fifteen boats in the table that start under $150 a person, two sharing, at 95.4% five stars across 395 reviews we read. These five lead the band.

La Pandora is the boat we would send someone to first in this band: 377 of its 395 reviews are five stars, from $145 on the listing card read on 6 August 2026. Listings date La Pandora to 2019, and it boards at Tuan Chau Marina. Emeraude Classic comes second, with 352 five-star reviews in 391 from $118, half the $235 superior cabin on its operator’s tariff, which is published in dong and which we converted on the Vietcombank rate of 9 October 2026. Its operator dates the present ship to December 2003 and gives it 37 cabins. Renea is the only one of the five on Bai Tu Long Bay. It leaves from Ha Long International Cruise Port, with 231 five-star reviews in 259 from $130, and its operator runs three wooden junks under the Renea name, of 11, 12 and 14 cabins. Hera Grand starts at $120 and, like Emeraude Classic, sails Ha Long Bay. Syrena, further down at $110, is the cheapest of the 31 boats in the table that carry a price. Le Journey Elegance starts at $143, the same as Sena in twenty-second place, on the thinnest record of the five.

Three boats in the table carry the Orchid name. Trendy scores 97.0%, Classic 90.4% and Premium 86.1%, so the spread under a single name is 11 points, against 5.4 points between the two price bands below $300. All three are sold on orchidcruises.com under one set of terms and conditions.

Best from $150 to $300

Orchid Trendy leads the fifteen boats in the table that start from $150 to $300 a person, two sharing, at 97.0% five stars across 400 reviews we read. These five lead the band.

Orchid Trendy leads this band from $165, half the $330 deluxe balcony on a listing card read on 8 October 2026, with 388 of its 400 reviews at five stars. Ambassador Signature follows from $168, half the $335 cheapest cabin on its operator’s tariff read on 11 August 2026, on a 39-cabin boat. Nostalgia takes the opposite approach: its operator lists ten cabins, and it has 330 five-star reviews out of 354, from $155. Alisa Premier is the strongest of the boats that sail Ha Long Bay itself rather than Lan Ha, with 92.1% of 393 reviews at five stars, also from $155. Orchid Classic starts at the same $165 as Orchid Trendy and sits five places lower, at 90.4% of 354.

Does Stellar of the Seas suit everyone?

No. Its 99.4% shows which boat the guests who wrote complained about least, and that is a different question from which boat suits you. Stellar of the Seas starts at $366 a person, more than twice the $165 of Orchid Trendy in second place, and its operator lets a child under 4 sail free, then charges half fare from 4, 75% from 7 and the full fare from 12. At the other end of the ranking, Doris at 61.7% has 108 five-star reviews in it, which means a great many people had a fine trip on a boat near the bottom of our list. Which ranked boats take children, solo travellers or a whole-boat charter?

Twelve of the 32 can be hired whole, by their operators’ own sites, and they are on our private charter list. The operators of 14 print the ages at which a child travels free and, on most of them, the age at which the adult fare starts. Five print what one person travelling alone pays.

This table keeps the ranking order and lists the 21 boats with at least one of those terms. The free place is for one child per cabin on ten of the 14. The Orchid line is the one to price carefully if you travel alone. Its operator quotes rates per room for one guest or two, so a solo guest pays for the whole cabin: on Trendy’s cheapest, that is the $330 on the listing card read on 8 October 2026, which two people would otherwise split. On Stellar of the Seas the operator’s single-cabin rate is about 65% of the rate for two.

What is the catch with this ranking?

The catch is that a five-star share measures who bothered to write, and in our view the people who bother lean towards the pleased ones. Across all 8,058 ratings, 85.1% are five stars.

Two more limits sit in the table itself. A boat without a published page on this site is absent here regardless of how its guests rated it. And 22 of the 32 boats that did qualify sail Lan Ha rather than Ha Long Bay, with eight on Ha Long and two, Renea and Swan, on Bai Tu Long. The skew has eased since the first version, which held 20 Lan Ha boats out of 25 and a single Bai Tu Long boat, but anyone choosing by bay is still getting a ranking of one bay with a few visitors from the others.

We quote per-cabin rates sparingly on this page for a reason. For 70 of the 82 published boats with a one-night rate card, the card we use prints the highest published rate rather than the going one, so it marks a ceiling, and a per-person price halved from such a card is a ceiling too. Three more limits on this ranking. Of the reviews we read, 64% are in English and 11% in Vietnamese. Five boats stopped on the limit set for the collection run rather than at the end of their record, so each record runs longer than what we hold: Orchid Trendy at exactly 400 reviews, Emeraude Classic at 400 before nine were set aside, Alisa Premier at 400 before seven about its sister boat Rita were set aside, La Pandora at 400 before five about its sister boat La Pandora Boutique were set aside, and Stellar of the Seas, which ranks first here, at 500 before one about Elite of the Seas was set aside. And a share of five-star ratings says nothing about why a trip went wrong; for that, read what guests complain about, where the loudest complaint turns out not to be the one that marks a bad trip.

Common questions

Which is the best Ha Long Bay cruise overall? On our numbers, Stellar of the Seas, at 99.4% five stars across 499 reviews with no one or two star ratings at all. It starts at $366 a person, two sharing, half the $732 junior suite on its operator’s tariff read on 8 October 2026, so it is not a cheap answer. If price matters more than the last few points of score, Orchid Trendy at $165 and 97.0% is the better trade.

Is a cheap boat a risk? Barely. Across the 31 ranked boats with a price, 5.8% of reviews for the under-$150 group gave one or two stars, against 4.8% for the $150 to $300 group, and the five-star shares are 81.8% and 87.2%. Price and score barely track each other (Spearman 0.25). The individual boat matters far more: La Pandora and Aspira both start at $145 a person and sit twenty-six places apart.

Why is a famous boat missing from the list? Either it has no page on this site yet, we hold fewer than 100 reviews for it, or the reviews we hold cover less than a year, which is the case for Amour, Aime’e, Athena Premium, Halora Nova and Victorious. The ranking draws on the 32 of our 92 published boats that have at least 100 reviews spanning twelve months, and a boat’s absence from it says nothing about its quality.

How often does this ranking change? Whenever we collect reviews again or correct the data; the last recount, on 16 October 2026, moved no figure. The reviews behind it were collected on 12 August 2026 for 27 boats, 6 October for Hera Grand and 10 October for Emeraude Classic, Erina, Genesis Regal and Syrena. The version of 8 October added the twelve-month rule, 10 October added four new boats, and 14 October set aside reviews of other boats and reviews dated before a launch, which took Mon Cheri out.
