Ha Long Bay day cruises

Back in Hanoi the same evening. Most shared day cruises give you five and a half to eight hours on the boat for about thirteen hours away from your hotel, and most companies run it on a separate day boat from their overnight fleet.

Lunch on board, usually three stops on the water, and the Old Quarter again by nine: that is what a Ha Long Bay day cruise buys you. For the boats that board around 11:30, Hanoi pickup is between seven and eight; most boats board between 09:00 and 12:00, and you are back in the city between half past seven and nine at night. Ten of the companies whose overnight boats we publish also run day cruises, and our day trip timetable sets out their boats’ hours and the prices they publish.

How long are you actually on the water?

Five and a half to eight hours on most shared boats. Emeraude also sells four-hour trips, and its trip sold as eight hours runs from an 08:00 check-in to 18:00, which is ten. Cozy Bay Premium (11:30 to 17:00) and La Muse (12:00 to 17:30) are at the short end; La Casta Daily, from a 10:00 check-in to 17:30 or 18:00, and JadeSails, 09:30 to about 17:30 on a reseller’s timetable, are at the long end. The Hanoi to Ha Long van adds roughly seven hours to the day once you count hotel pickups, a rest stop and the drive both ways. The drive from central Hanoi is around two and a half hours each way, the figure Bhaya gives on its own day-cruise page.

Most Ha Long Bay day boats stay out into the late afternoon. Hera’s day boat docks at 17:45, La Casta Daily at 17:30 to 18:00, Cozy Bay’s Lan Ha boat at 18:00, and Hera, Cozy Bay and La Casta all put a sunset drink or party on the programme. A few morning sailings are back by lunchtime: Emeraude’s four-hour morning trip is ashore at 11:30, and Lavoya’s sunrise sailing at 13:00.

What do you see in a day?

On the Ha Long side, usually three stops. Ambassador, Cozy Bay Premium, La Casta, Paradise Delight and one of Emeraude’s eight-hour routes all publish the same trio of Sung Sot Cave, a kayak or bamboo-boat loop at Luon Cave, and the beach and viewpoint on Titov Island; Emeraude’s six-hour trip has you choose between Luon and Titov. Catherine Horizon adds Trinh Nu Cave to Sung Sot and Titov. La Muse sails the other way, into Bai Tu Long for Thien Canh Son Cave. Lunch is served on board on all of them. The Bai Tu Long and Ha Long Bay pages describe the two areas.

The limitation is the crowd and the transfer. The biggest shared boats carry hundreds: Paradise Delight takes up to 360 guests and Hera’s day boat takes up to 200 guests. In our view the bay is at its quietest once the day boats have gone in, and that takes a night on board. Our two days and one night page covers what a night adds.

Which company runs which day boat?

Ten of the companies with overnight boats on our site run the day boats listed here. Each day boat is a separate vessel; the link goes to the same company’s overnight boat, which is a different trip.

How do you choose between Ha Long Bay day cruises?

Choose on boarding time, on what the fare includes, and on the size of the boat. Boarding time comes first, because it decides your morning. A check-in between 09:00 and 09:45 (Catherine Horizon and Paradise Delight 09:00, Ambassador 09:45, read 16 October 2026) means an early van; an 11:30 boarding at Tuan Chau (Cozy Bay, Hera) gives you the late afternoon on the water instead.

Then check what the fare covers. Cozy Bay’s fares start from US$49 per person including a round-trip limousine (read 11 October 2026). Hera’s 1,900,000 VND per adult does not include transport, and its shuttle adds 500,000 VND per person return (read 6 October 2026). Ambassador, Paradise and Emeraude charge separately for kayaking at Luon Cave. Get the price in writing with the van and the kayak either in or out.

Take a day cruise if you can only spare the hours between breakfast and dinner in Hanoi. Look elsewhere if you want a quiet deck or a long paddle: Paradise Delight takes up to 360 guests and Hera’s day boat 200, and kayaking is often an extra. If a small boat is the point, La Muse takes 36 guests and Bhaya Legend runs private for 2 to 12. Our guide to getting from Hanoi to Ha Long covers the drive, and two days or three sets out what each length of overnight cruise gives you.
