Details →On Orient Legacy even the cheapest cabin is 35 m², with a bathtub set against a window onto Lan Ha Bay, and a private balcony costs $15 a night more on a halongbaytours.com sheet read on 6 August 2026. At the top, the two Faifo Legend Suites and the single Saigon Legacy Suite put a tub out on the balcony itself.
The boat is new. Its operator says it began sailing in August 2026, and a guest writing on 12 August described “this brand new ship launched this month”. Of the 66 Google reviews we collected up to 6 October 2026, 65 give five stars and one gives three.
Five decks, the lower three each themed on a Vietnamese place, two of them in the 1930s. Orient Legacy has 43 cabins, joint third by cabin count among the 66 boats in our data, and the operator gives the length as 80 metres. The main deck, named for Ha Long, holds the eight Halong Deluxe cabins, a reception lounge of 300 m² with a library, and the Lotus spa, where the operator lists treatment rooms, a salt steam sauna, herbal baths and a jacuzzi. The second deck takes its name from Faifo, an old European name for Hoi An, and the third from Saigon; between them they hold the other 35 cabins.
The fourth deck is where everyone gathers. The Pearl of Orient restaurant, which the operator puts at 90 seats, is walled in glass, and the Four Season Pool sits just outside it: a 50 m² infinity pool looking over the bay. The sundeck above is the Dalat Sky Bar and Terrace, 410 m² of open deck where tai chi starts at six in the morning.
A family of eight who sailed on 2 and 3 August, writing in French, said the boat matched its photographs.
Twenty-nine of the 43. The operator’s general description says every room has a sea-view balcony, but its own cabin guide, published in September 2026, says the Halong Deluxe and Faifo Deluxe cabins have a large window and no balcony. That is 14 cabins by the operator’s deck plan. They are the same 35 m² as the Faifo Suite next door, with the same bathtub by the window, and the rate sheet puts the gap at $15 a night: $320 for a Deluxe, $335 for a Faifo Suite. If you want to sit outside your own room with a morning coffee, that is the cheapest $15 on the boat. If a seller promises you a balcony, check that your confirmation names a Suite class.
Above the 35 m² band, two Faifo Grand and two Saigon Grand Suites measure 45 m². The two Faifo Legend Suites (68 m², balcony 14 m²) and the single Saigon Legacy Suite, room 301 (135 m², balcony 50 m²), are semi-circular rooms with a round super-king bed, an outdoor tub on the balcony and breakfast served out there.
A cabin for two costs $320 to $770 for one night, or $615 to $1,520 for the whole three-day trip, on the halongbaytours.com sheet we read on 6 August 2026. Each figure is the top rate on that one seller’s sheet; your quote may differ. Decks, sizes and cabin counts are the operator’s.
| Cabin | Deck | Size | Cabins | Own balcony | One night (2 days) | Two nights (3 days, whole trip) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Halong Deluxe | Main | 35 m² | 8 | No | $320 | $615 |
| Faifo Deluxe | 2nd | 35 m² | 6 | No | $320 | $615 |
| Faifo Suite | 2nd | 35 m² | 10 | Yes | $335 | $660 |
| Saigon Suite | 3rd | 35 m² | 12 | Yes | $370 | $740 |
| Faifo Grand Suite | 2nd | 45 m² | 2 | Yes | $410 | $810 |
| Saigon Grand Suite | 3rd | 45 m² | 2 | Yes | $410 | $820 |
| Faifo Legend Suite | 2nd | 68 m² | 2 | Yes, with outdoor tub | $540 | $1,070 |
| Saigon Legacy Suite | 3rd | 135 m² | 1 | Yes, with outdoor tub | $770 | $1,520 |
The Saigon Suite costs $35 more than the Faifo Suite for the same 35 m², one deck higher. The operator’s own site listed fares from $178 per adult for one night when we read it on 30 September 2026. The $320 entry cabin sits $10 above the middle of our data: of the 57 boats with a one-night sheet, read on different dates from different sellers, half start at $310 or less.
In the cheapest class the three-day trip is $615 against $320 for one night, so the extra night adds $295, or 92% of the first, close to the 94% median for the cheapest cabin across 51 other boats priced by the same seller. In the suites the second night costs 97% to 100% of the first. Two days or three weighs up whether it is worth it.
You board by tender at about 12:15 and step off at 11:00 the next morning, on the operator’s timetable. Check-in, with a welcome drink, is at its lounge at Lot 24A, Tuan Chau Marina, from around 11:30, and its limousine leaves Hanoi’s Old Quarter between 8:00 and 9:30 if you book it.
Lunch is at 12:45 as the ship heads into Lan Ha. At 15:30 you reach Dark and Bright Cave, by kayak or sitting in a local’s rowed bamboo boat, then swim off the ship. Afternoon tea, a happy hour on deck and a spring-roll demonstration fill the time from 17:30, dinner is at 19:00 on the fourth deck, and squid fishing follows.
Morning two is early. Tai chi starts at 6:00, a light breakfast at 6:45, and at 7:00 you go out to Tra Bau to kayak or swim. You check out at 9:30, an early lunch is served from 9:45 on the way back, and the operator’s FAQ puts you in Hanoi between 14:30 and 15:00. A guest on the three-day trip in August found the activities “nicely spaced out in a leisurely pace”.
On the three-day programme the middle day is spent off the ship. A day boat leaves at 8:00 for Viet Hai, where a 30-minute bike ride takes you into the village. Lunch is in the village or back on the day boat, and at 15:00 you stop at Ba Trai Dao beach before rejoining Orient Legacy at 16:00.
Orient Legacy’s guests write about the crew more than anything else. The crew come up in 60 of the 62 reviews we have sorted by topic, and 57 of the 66 name at least one member of staff; the operator says it carries 45 hospitality staff and 40 crew. Jenny appears in 23 of the 66, and Rosie, at reception and on the main deck, in 21. A Korean guest wrote that each group had its own server at every meal. On a three-day trip over Chuseok, another guest’s server translated into Korean and came out to their car to say goodbye.
Food comes up in 29 of the 62. A Korean guest on a two-night trip reported lobster on the first evening and two main courses at every dinner.
Vegetarians are less settled. Of five reviewers who raise it, three were pleased; the one three-star review found the choice very limited, and an Indian guest who gave five stars still told fellow vegetarians to “carry some pickles, chatni etc with you”, though the chef cooked separately for them. Say so when you book.
Meals, the programme’s excursions, entrance fees and a guide who speaks English and Vietnamese, says the operator. The activities in the programme are free, and each cabin gets two bottles of water a day.
Other drinks cost extra. That means water at meals too: the three-star reviewer wrote on 25 September that “they don’t supply water at the lunch n dinner for free”. Spa treatments, tips and the transfer are extra as well. The operator’s limousine costs $35 a person return or $20 one way, and its FAQ says the vehicles carry no child seats. One listing adds $60 per adult and $30 per child a night on 24 and 31 December. Free Wi-Fi is promised in the restaurant and bar; a guest writing in Korean said it arrived on 18 September and barely reached the room. We cannot tell you whether that has changed since.
The operator’s site promises a full refund if the port authority cancels a sailing for weather between 1 July and 31 October. If you buy through a seller, get that in writing from them. What is not included and cancellation policies cover the rest.
Couples who want space, in our view. No cabin is under 35 m², and a balcony starts at $335 a night. For an anniversary, the Faifo Legend Suites at $540 are the cheapest way onto a balcony with its own tub on this boat. Families taking several cabins can spread across the 22 Faifo and Saigon Suites, which come with twin beds or a double, and a guest writing in Hebrew said the children loved the kayaks and the fishing. The best-value boats and Lan Ha Bay cruises categories list others to compare.
Anyone who chooses on track record. The newness that keeps the rooms fresh also means our reviews start in summer 2026, and how old is your boat sets 2026 against the fleet. If that gives you pause, Orient Legacy gives the same Hanoi office address as La Regina Cruises, 38 Tran Xuan Soan Street, and La Regina’s home page links to it. Travellers who need a dependable connection in the cabin should look elsewhere too, and so should parents who need a car seat on the operator’s transfer.
The operator prints 90 guests on its deck plan and “90+” on its home page, so we list no capacity until it settles on one. One operator page says four Faifo Deluxe cabins; its deck plan, cabin guide and room numbers (215 to 220) say six, which is the figure we use.
The pictures of the outside of the ship we have checked are computer renders, so we hold no photograph of the hull yet.
Chosen by price proximity within the same bay, computed from our dataset — not by commission. We add no booking fee to any of them.
Our read is that Orient Legacy sells on room size at a middle-of-the-market price, and a crew guests like by name. Its record is two months deep. Pay the extra $15 a night for a balcony class, and make sure the class name is on your confirmation.

Assembled from the 2 sources we read for this boat, grouped by what each line is about and counted by how many sources list it. Quotes are the sources' own wording. Nothing here replaces the confirmation you get in writing when you book.
Published by one listing and not corroborated elsewhere1 source. Road transfers vary with traffic — treat the last leg as approximate and do not book a flight out of Hanoi tight against it.
We checked every cancellation ladder in our sources. They differ by who you book through, not by which boat you sail: the same boat carries different terms on different listings. So we will not print one and call it Orient Legacy Cruise's policy.
Across the 7 distinct ladders we found, free cancellation ends somewhere between 15 and 30 days before check-in. After that the fee climbs to 100%.
Get the ladder in writing from whoever quotes you, before you pay a deposit.
We have seen this boat advertised between $160 and $338 per person. The spread is seasonal rather than random: the low end is generally mid-week outside the dry season, the high end is the Christmas fortnight and Tết. The rest is bundling — cabin class, itinerary length, and whether the Hanoi transfer is in the fare.
Tuan Chau Marina. The piers serving these bays are roughly twenty minutes apart and drivers do occasionally go to the wrong one, so name it when you arrange your own transfer.
No source we checked publishes: capacity. A further 6 figures rest on a single source. We would rather say that than fill the gap with a guess. If the operator sends us the figures we will publish them and date them.

We add no booking fee. The figure we show is the lowest rate we found published, dated the day we checked it.
