All 70 boats publish a two-day one-night rate. Just 1 of the 70 publishes a three-day two-night rate. The rest quote three-day trips on request, which means the tidy comparison you want, the extra cost of the third day, is a number the market does not print.

We can show you the single data point that does exist, and then we have to stop. The one boat that publishes both, Peony Cruise, asks $145 a person for two days and $264 for three. That is a jump of a little over four fifths for the extra day and night. But it is one boat. We cannot tell you whether it is typical, cheap or dear, because there is nothing to compare it against, and we are not going to build a fleet-wide rule out of a sample of one. Anyone who quotes you a standard three-day premium has done exactly that, or guessed.

So the real question is time, not money

Strip out the price you cannot see and a clearer choice remains. The two trips are not the same experience stretched or squeezed. They are shaped differently.

A two-day one-night trip is, in practice, an afternoon, an evening and a morning. You board around midday, you get one sunset and one dinner on the water, and you are heading back to the pier not long after breakfast. It is enough for the headline of the bay, and on a tight schedule it works. What it is not is restful, because almost half of it is arriving and leaving.

The third day changes the arithmetic. A three-day two-night trip gives you a full middle day with no packing and no transfer, the one stretch where the boat can reach the water that the day trippers never see. It is the difference between visiting the bay and spending time in it. The extra night is also a genuine extra day of running the boat, with its own fuel, crew and meals, so whatever the hidden price turns out to be, it is not a rounding error.

Which one suits you

Choose two days if your calendar is the binding constraint, if this is one stop on a longer Vietnam route, or if a single night on the water is what you came for. It is the honest choice for a short trip, and most of the fleet’s reputation is built on it.

Choose three days if the point of the trip is the bay itself rather than ticking it off, if you want a morning that begins on the water instead of on a coach, and if reaching the quieter corners matters more than the sum you cannot quite pin down.
