Details →Scarlet Pearl mostly sits still. A guest who bought three days and two nights writes that the ship sailed for about an hour over lunch on the first day and about an hour over breakfast on the last, and stayed moored for everything in between. If you are picturing a vessel under way through the karst for two days, picture a floating hotel with a kayak rack instead, and judge it on those terms. On the halongbaytours.com listing read on 6 August 2026, the cheapest cabin for two was $310 for the night: from $155 per person, two sharing.
On those terms there is a good deal here. Scarlet Pearl is a steel boat 71 metres long, launched in 2019, carrying up to 66 guests in 23 cabins over six decks. Every cabin has a private balcony. The operator’s itinerary puts a swimming pool on the first deck. The Akoya Spa charges for treatments and throws in a foot massage. The hull gets praised even by people awarding two stars, one of whom calls her the most modern boat they saw on the water that day.
The Silver Pearl, for two. It is sixteen of the twenty-three cabins, 28 m² with a balcony, on the first and second decks. Prices are for one cabin on the halongbaytours.com listing read on 6 August 2026, the highest rate it showed for each grade; sizes, counts and decks are from the operator’s fact sheet.
| Cabin | Size | How many | Deck | One night, per cabin | Two nights, per cabin for the whole trip |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Silver Pearl | 28 m² | 16 | First and second | $310 | $605 |
| Golden Pearl | 40 m² | 4 | Second | $440 | $870 |
| Onyx Pearl | 60 m² | 2 | End of the second | $540 | $1,050 |
Above those sits a single President Suite of 150 m² on the bow of the second deck, with an 80 m² private sundeck and its own jacuzzi, priced on request. One five-star guest loved its private deck and hot tub; a two-star guest in March 2026 found it dated, the round bed too small and the hot water slow to come. Agencies also sell a Silver Triple and a family room that joins two Silver cabins, carved out of the sixteen.
Children under five stay free, one per cabin, and a second pays half. Five to nine pay 75%, and ten and over count as adults.
The cabin, every meal, tea and coffee, a welcome drink, a guide and the kayaks. Drinks, the spa and card fees are extra. Wifi reaches the restaurant and bar, not the cabins.
The road from Hanoi is extra too. The operator’s limousine leaves daily between 08:00 and 08:30 and costs $35 a head for the round trip; a private car can be arranged. Christmas, New Year, Tet, the 30 April to 1 May holiday and 2 September carry surcharges, so have the figure for your date on the quote.
Get it all in writing, because charges come up again and again in the low reviews. One traveller was presented with a bill for road transport at check-in after being told the Hanoi transfer was included, and had it corrected only after objecting; the same guest had bought a “3 days cruise” without realising it meant two nights. Another was charged extra for taxi pickup and drop-off with no warning. Name every leg of the transport and price it in the same email as the cabin grade, and read the itinerary as nights rather than days. What is not included covers the usual extras.
The drive from Hanoi stops at a pearl and handicraft shop; one guest resented a full 30 minutes there, another felt no pressure to buy. A dispute between another guest and the staff over a booking-platform reservation was handled by arguing in front of the people waiting to board. Food is the most frequent single subject: described as a letdown, and in one case a stated dietary requirement was taken and then ignored. One guest disliked where on the ship their cabin was placed and says they were never asked.
The operator’s terms say the programme may change with the weather and unused services are not refunded.
The five-star pile is not empty and it is not vague. A guest who sailed Tuesday to Wednesday had six other passengers on the whole ship, and a December guest felt they had the bay to themselves. Another guest singles out the trampoline among the activities.
Into Lan Ha Bay, the water off Cat Ba island. You arrive at Lot 41B, Tuan Chau Marina, by 11:45; the tender runs out between 12:15 and 13:00 and lunch is at 13:15 as she sails. The afternoon goes to Dark and Bright Cave, which you can paddle into yourself or enter sitting in a bamboo boat, and then a swim. Next morning there is another chance to swim or kayak from the boat. Luggage goes out at nine, the tender leaves at 10:30, and you are back at Tuan Chau at 11:30.
The two-night trip adds a swim at Tra Bau on the first afternoon and a day on a smaller boat in the middle. You ride a bicycle or an electric car to Viet Hai village, then swim and kayak at the beach of Ba Trai Dao, the Three Peaches. The operator also sells a three-night version that adds Cat Ba island. Two days or three weighs the extra night.
Give your driver the full name, Tuan Chau Marina, and read it back to them, because the harbours here are easy to confuse.
People who want space and water activities for their money on Lan Ha Bay, who are happy in a kayak, and who will spend fifteen minutes pinning down the transfers before paying. On that footing she belongs on the best-value list and among the Lan Ha boats generally.
Anyone who needs the booking to mean exactly what it says. The unhappy reviewers here write most about the food, then about charges, schedules and promises. If the choice of water is still open, the three bays compared is where to begin.
The pier, the times, both programmes, the cabin sizes, counts and decks, the length, decks and capacity, the pool, the inclusions, the limousine fare and the child terms come from scarletpearlcruises.com, read on 10 August 2026; halongbaytours.com and besthalongcruises.com give the same Tuan Chau lot. The 2019 launch is from four agencies. Prices are from the halongbaytours.com listing read on 6 August 2026 and move with season, so confirm yours on the quote. A 71-metre steel boat of 23 cabins, every one with a balcony, that spends most of its time moored in Lan Ha as a base for the kayaks and the swim ladder. The hull draws praise even in the bad reviews; the money tends to go missing between the booking page and the check-in desk. Book the Silver Pearl and get the transport priced in writing.

This is not our score. It is the aggregate across the listings we track, and shows where Scarlet Pearl Cruise sits against the 108 boats we can score: a median of9.5 on 87 reviews. Scores in this bay cluster near the top (8–9.9), which is why we show you the review count as well.
That number is what we collected and read. The score beside it is the average the listings publish, computed on 240.
