June on Ha Long Bay is hot by day and by night, and it rains often but seldom hard. Ten years of modelled weather give days of 31.1°C, nights of 27.7°C and a sea of 31.5°C. Guests rate it well: 33 of the 897 reviews posted in June give one or two stars, 3.7%, level with October and behind only July and September. The catch is the wind. June has more days with strong gusts than any other month, and a storm stopped overnight boats from sailing on 13 June 2025.
Review figures come from the 897 reviews posted in June, of 13,074 dated reviews for 76 boats counted on 28 October 2026. Three boats whose full Google history we hold count only their 700 most recent reviews, so no single boat outweighs the rest. A review’s date is the day it went up, which can be days or weeks after the trip.
Hot and humid, with rain on about 20 days and 10 mm or more on about 9, but few downpours. These are June averages for 2016 to 2025 from ERA5 reanalysis, a model grid about 25 km wide.
| June, 2016–2025 | Average |
|---|---|
| Daytime high | 31.1°C |
| Night-time low | 27.7°C |
| Coolest night in the ten years | 23.1°C (2 June 2019) |
| Hottest day in the ten years | 35.2°C (2 June 2025) |
| Days with 1 mm of rain or more | 19.9 |
| Days with 10 mm of rain or more | 9.2 |
| Rain in the month | 235 mm (101 mm in the driest year, 395 mm in the wettest) |
| Wettest day in the ten years | 62.5 mm (24 June 2023) |
| Sunshine | 9.0 hours a day |
| Sea-surface temperature | 31.5°C (three Junes) |
The nights are the hard part. In an average June the low stays at 25°C or above on 29 of the 30 nights, against about 20 in May, and at 27°C or above on 18, against about 8 in May. Days reach 30°C on about 24. Check that the cabin’s air conditioning can run all night. One guest posting on 16 June 2025 says they were moved to a different boat from the one booked, and that the air conditioning did not work until 8 pm, leaving the cabins like baking chambers; their request to go back to port was refused, and with no internet on board they could not reach the booking site.
Rain is spread evenly: each ten-day stretch averages 76 to 80 mm, and only one June day in the decade passed 50 mm. Rain barely reaches the June reviews. Of the 806 June reviews with text, none mentions rain or a storm.
Yes. The sea averaged 31.5°C over three Junes, from 29.6°C on the coolest day to 32.6°C on the warmest, two degrees warmer than in May. Jellyfish are the thing to ask about. Ten of the reviews we count describe jellyfish in the water, six of them posted from June to August 2026.
A guest posting on 2 June 2026 noted some jellyfish in the water and still wished the crew would let guests jump off the boat, with a signed waiver if need be. Ask the crew before you go in.
June has the most gusty days of any month, and storms can stop overnight boats, as one did on 13 June 2025. Gusts of 50 km/h or more came on 72 June days in ten years, 7.2 a year, the most of any month, but 32 of them fell in 2020 and 2021 alone. Only three June days rank among the decade’s 50 windiest: 12 and 13 June 2021, and 13 June 2025, with a gust of 68 km/h.
On 13 June 2025, for storm no. 1 of that year, the waterway port authority suspended licences for overnight boats on Ha Long Bay and told tour boats to land their guests before 18:00, as halongbay.com.vn reported that day. Our guide to what changed on Ha Long Bay in 2026 lists each storm stop on record and when it began, and the cancellation policy guide compares what operators refund when one lands on your date.
The water itself stays fairly calm. On open water the highest wave of an average June day was 0.44 m across four Junes, the highest monthly average of the year, and the biggest of the 120 days reached 0.86 m; no June day reached a metre. Our guide to seasickness on Ha Long Bay sets those waves against what guests felt, and the weather guide has the gust record month by month.
June is a mid-table month. It ranks eighth of twelve by reviews posted, with 897, a count that tracks guest numbers only loosely. Crowd words turn up in 21 of the 806 June text reviews, 2.6%, against 2.3% across the year, a gap small enough to be chance.
The language of the reviews does change. In June 201 of the 897 reviews are written in Vietnamese, 22.4%, against 1,268 of 12,177, 10.4%, in the other months, far too large a gap to be chance, and July is much the same at 22.7%. Our reading is that more Vietnamese guests take cruises in early summer.
June reviews are a little better than average, by a margin small enough to be chance. As posted, 33 of the 897 June reviews (3.7%) sit at one or two stars, against 554 of the 12,177 reviews from other months (4.5%); October is level, and only July and September are lower. July leads June by 0.7 points, about six June reviews’ worth, a gap still within chance. On the three complete years from 2023 to 2025 June drops to 23 of 370, 6.2%, a little above the 5.6% average for those years and ninth of twelve months, which is why our month by month comparison puts July first.
| June posted in | Reviews | One or two stars | That whole year |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 43 | 3 (7.0%) | 9.4% |
| 2024 | 72 | 7 (9.7%) | 6.2% |
| 2025 | 255 | 13 (5.1%) | 4.8% |
| 2026 | 500 | 9 (1.8%) | 2.9% (to 25 October) |
Six thinner Junes, 2017 to 2022, add 27 reviews and one low score.
June 2026 carries the month: 9 low scores in 500 reviews, 1.8%, against 175 in 5,745 for the rest of 2026 to 25 October, 3.0%, a gap within chance. June 2024 ran above its own year, but on 72 reviews that gap is within chance too.
Among boats with 100 or more reviews counted over at least a year and a five-star share at or above the median of those 34 boats, Ambassador Signature, Orchid Premium and Elite of the Seas had the most June reviews without a single low one, counted on 28 October 2026 in the reviews we count.
| Boat | June reviews | One or two stars in June | All reviews counted | Five stars, all reviews counted |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ambassador Signature | 126 | 0 | 547 | 97.1% |
| Orchid Premium | 29 | 0 | 359 | 89.7% |
| Elite of the Seas | 20 | 0 | 167 | 93.4% |
Ambassador Signature’s June record is one summer deep: 122 of its 126 June reviews went up in June 2026. A guest on its three-day trip, posting on 28 June 2026, hiked in Cat Ba National Park with the guide, cooled off at a beach and visited a fishing village where they had their feet exfoliated in a fish pond.
Orchid Premium has five cabins, its operator’s site says, and a guest posting on 5 June 2026 found its route through Lan Ha and Ha Long not too crowded.
Elite of the Seas has June reviews from four years, 8, 1, 7 and 4 from 2023 to 2026, all of them five stars. Two of its guests posted on 4 June 2026. One, on the three-day trip, paddle-boarded, swam and kayaked from the boat; the other, travelling as vegetarians, had every course adapted but found the drinks expensive outside lunch and dinner.
Four questions, by email, so the answers are in writing.
July comes next and has the year’s best reviews; our July guide covers it.
Is June a good month for a Ha Long Bay cruise? In our view, yes, if you can take the heat. June’s share of one and two star reviews is 3.7% of the 897 counted on 28 October 2026, level with October and behind only July and September, against 4.5% for the whole year, and the sea averages 31.5°C. The trade-off is nights of 27.7°C and the most gusty days of any month.
Is it too hot to cruise in June? It is hot. Days on Ha Long Bay average 31.1°C, reach 30°C on about 24 of the 30 and peaked at 35.2°C on 2 June 2025, and nights stay at 25°C or above on 29 of 30. Pack light clothes, sun protection and swimwear, and ask whether the cabin air conditioning runs all night.
Do storms cancel cruises in June? Sometimes. On 13 June 2025 the waterway port authority suspended licences for overnight boats for storm no. 1 of that year. Strong gusts come on about seven June days a year, but only three June days rank among the 50 windiest of the decade, against 15 in July. Details →May is the sunniest month in our weather record, with 9.4 hours of sun a day and a sea of 29.3°C. It is also much wetter, at 177 mm of rain against 68 mm in April, and 1 to 3 May 2027 are still part of the Reunification Day and Labour Day break.
Weather & seasonsThe usual advice is October to April. We counted what guests actually said, month by month, and July has the smallest share of one and two-star reviews whichever way you count.
Weather & seasonsWe pulled ten years of daily weather for one grid point in the bay and set it beside 13,074 guest reviews. Rain falls where the usual calendar puts it, May to September. The strong-wind days spread from July to October, and September holds fewer of them than you would guess.
Life on boardProbably not. Across four years of modelled sea data the highest wave of a typical day on the open water off Ha Long was 0.38 m, and only 7 of 11,497 written guest reviews describe feeling unwell on the boat. The motion people do notice comes in the tender and the first hour under way.
MoneyThirty-six Ha Long operators print their own cancellation ladder. The free window runs from 72 hours to 45 days before departure, cheap rates are often non-refundable, and a bay closure has rules of its own.
