Heritage Cruise Binh Chuan is a 75-metre ship that carries at most 40 guests in 20 suites, with a crew of 40, and every suite has a private balcony. She was built in 2018 and began sailing on Lan Ha Bay in September 2019, and she belongs to Lux Cruises Group, which also runs Emperor. She is not connected with Heritage Line, which runs Ginger. On the halongbaytours.com listing read on 6 August 2026, a Delta Suite for two was $360 for the night: from $180 per person, two sharing.

On board there is a swimming pool with its own bar and cabanas on the third floor, a Panorama Deck lounge, a sauna and a two-room spa, a gym on the top deck, and a gallery of paintings by Pham Luc. Wi-Fi reaches the restaurant and the bar only.

Where does Binh Chuan go?

To the Cat Ba side of the archipelago, on a programme the operator publishes with times. Lunch is at 13:15 as she passes Da Chong islet into Lan Ha. At 15:30 you swim at the beaches of Ba Trai Dao, the Three Peaches, or in the Tra Bau area. Happy hour runs from five to seven, with tea and a cooking class at six, and dinner is at 19:15, followed by squid fishing.

The second morning opens at 06:15 with a Vovinam session, the Vietnamese martial art, and at 07:15 a bamboo boat takes you through Dark and Bright Cave. Check-out is between 09:00 and 09:30, brunch is served on the way back, and you reach Tuan Chau at 10:30.

The two-night trip gives the middle day to Cat Ba. A day boat or speedboat takes you to Viet Hai village, where you go round by bicycle or electric car, with an optional visit to Tien Duc cave in Cat Ba National Park. You eat lunch ashore or aboard the day boat, then a swim at Ba Trai Dao, and you are back aboard at 15:30 for a cooking class and dinner at 19:30. The cave moves to the last morning. If you are still choosing a bay, how the three bays differ comes first.

Where do you board, and at what time?

At the Heritage Cruises lounge, No. 28B Tuan Chau International Marina, between 11:30 and 11:45. One of the operator’s two 20-seat speedboats takes you out to the ship in 30 to 40 minutes, and you board at about 12:30. The operator, halongbaytours.com and originvietnam.com all name Tuan Chau. Say the lounge number to your driver; which harbour you leave from explains why.

The operator’s D’Car limousine collects from the Old Quarter between 08:00 and 08:30 and has you back between 14:00 and 14:30. The group lists it at $45 a person for the round trip; halongbaytours.com sells a shuttle at $40.

Which suite should you book?

For two, the Ocean Suite: the same 33 m² as the Delta, on the second deck instead of the first, for $30 more. These are the prices for two on the halongbaytours.com listing read on 6 August 2026, the highest rate it published for each class, with sizes, decks and counts from the operator:

Suite Size Deck How many One night, per cabin Two nights, per cabin for the whole trip
Delta Suite 33 m² First 6 $360 $690
Ocean Suite 33 m² Second 10 $390 $740
Captain Suite 38 m² First 2 $450 $860
Regal Suite 46 m² Second 2 $510 $950

The second night is cheaper than the first, though not by much: on the Delta Suite, two nights cost $690 against $360 for one, so the Viet Hai day adds $330. Each suite takes one extra bed for a child under 12, and the operator carries cots, high chairs and children’s life vests.

The fare covers the speedboat, meals, fruit and snacks, water, tea and coffee, the cooking demonstration, Vovinam, the gym, pool and library, kayaks, the bamboo boat, an English-speaking cruise director, Wi-Fi, entrance tickets and service charges. On the group’s terms for one to three cabins, cancelling more than 45 days out is free; after that it costs 10% to 31 days, 30% to 16 days, 50% to 8 days, 70% to 4 days, and the full fare in the last three, on a 30% deposit.

What do the low reviews say?

The low reviews are mostly about how guests were handled, and next about the food. A two-star guest describes waiting an hour and a half in the operator’s lounge after an early pickup and calls the turnaround “a factory”. Another had a bag returned soaked through. A third booked the Emperor, the same company’s other boat, and was moved onto Binh Chuan because of weather without being told what was different about the ship or the route. Read the one-star reviews on Google before you book and decide whether those failures are ones you can live with.

None of this contradicts the good reviews. One guest in December 2023 was upgraded twice and ended in a Captain Suite, and the cabins draw praise consistently enough that we believe them.

Who is Binh Chuan for?

People who want the balcony, the pool and the Cat Ba route, who will read the suite table, and who can absorb a bad service day without the trip being ruined. See the Lan Ha boats for what else works this side, and the small boats for others of twenty suites or fewer.

Look elsewhere if you book on the average score alone. A boat whose worst reviews are about lounges, luggage, transfers and food can let you down even when the cabin is right, and the best-value list has boats with less to explain.

Where these facts come from

The ship’s dimensions, guest and crew numbers, build and launch dates, suites, facilities, the lounge, times, both programmes, inclusions, child arrangements, limousine and cancellation terms come from luxcruisesgroup.com, read on 14 October 2026. Prices and the shuttle fare are from the halongbaytours.com listing read on 6 August 2026. Guest remarks are from Google reviews.

Why people book Heritage Cruise Binh Chuan

Book it if

  • You want a balcony on Lan Ha on a 75-metre ship that takes only 40 guests, from $180 per person, two sharing, on a listing read on 6 August 2026
  • The Cat Ba side of the archipelago is the point of the trip for you: Ba Trai Dao, Dark and Bright Cave, and Viet Hai on the two-night trip
  • You want a pool with its own bar, a sauna and a gym on a boat of twenty suites

Our read

The ship is the reason to book: 75 metres for 40 guests, a balcony on every suite, a pool with a bar, and a crew of 40. The service record is the reason to hesitate, because the low reviews are mostly about how guests were handled and about the food. Book an Ocean Suite and read the low reviews before you pay.

The review-count bar is on a log scale: the boats we can score run from 1 review to 515, so a straight scale would squash almost everything against the left edge.

This is not our score. It is the aggregate across the listings we track, and shows where Heritage Cruise Binh Chuan sits against the 108 boats we can score: a median of9.5 on 87 reviews. Scores in this bay cluster near the top (8–9.9), which is why we show you the review count as well.

That number is what we collected and read. The score beside it is the average the listings publish, computed on 331.

Good to know

Who should look at something else
  • A high listing average is doing the deciding for you; read the one-star reviews first
  • You need to stay online; the operator puts Wi-Fi in the restaurant and bar only
  • Being moved between the group's boats would ruin the trip; one guest booked on Emperor was moved to Binh Chuan when storms came in
