La Pandora Cruise

Two boats trade under this name. There is La Pandora, and there is La Pandora Boutique, and a guest who sailed in December 2025 gave one star to write that the Boutique boat has no balconies, that it is finished to a minimum standard, and that the photographs they had been shown belonged to the other one. They paid $150 a head for what was sold to them as a deluxe cruise. Settle which hull you are buying before anything else on this page is any use to you.

On La Pandora every cabin class is sold with a balcony; the guest who was moved to the Boutique boat found none there. The cabin guide explains why a listing’s checkbox so often describes only the best room on board.

To be fair to the Boutique boat, a guest who took it in January 2026 was pleased with everything. So this is not a good boat and a bad boat. It is two boats sold as one, with one photo set.

What are you booking on La Pandora?

A steel boat of 52 metres by 11.5 over four decks, launched in 2019; the size and decks are halongbaycruises.com’s figures. A three-star guest who was put on the smaller Boutique boat says it carried fewer than thirty people. Kayaking is in the operator’s programme; the agencies also list a spa.

The operator’s programme runs like this. Lunch is served at about one as you sail past the Con Vit islets, and at four the boat reaches the Ong Cam area of Lan Ha for a swim, followed by a sunset party and dinner. The second morning goes to Dark and Bright Cave before check-out. On the two-night trip a day boat takes you to Viet Hai village, which you ride through by bicycle, past rainforest, a dark tunnel, rice fields and an old house of straw and mud. Lunch is on the day boat, the afternoon from 13:30 is spent on the white-sand beaches of the Van Boi area, and you are back aboard at 16:30. Our Viet Hai guide describes the village.

What the cabins cost

The rate table was read on 6 August 2026, and it quotes per cabin for the two-day trip. Panorama Suite and Suite Balcony on the lower deck are both $290 for two people. The same Suite Balcony one deck higher is $310. Family Suite takes three at $460. None of that came from an operator tariff. Each is the dearest rate a listing happened to be showing that day, which makes them ceilings rather than quotes.

Halved, the $290 cabin is $145 each for two sharing. Booked direct, the operator’s “from Hanoi” package includes the round-trip shuttle from its office at 37 Ngo Huyen Street, with no discount if you do not use it; agencies sell it as an extra. Two guests wrote down what they actually handed over: $150 each, and $300 for a couple booked through a hotel. Both sit a little above that floor. The first came from the guest who ended up on the Boutique boat; the second from a couple who paid a hotel that had recommended the trip.

The water in the middle of the trip

Boarding is at the La Pandora lounge, Lot 26, Tuan Chau International Marina, which the operator names. Tuan Chau is not the Ha Long International Cruise Port, and drivers mix them up; which harbour you leave from is worth five minutes before you arrange your own car.

Then there is the tender. A five-star guest describes a smaller boat out of Tuan Chau to the larger ship. A one-star guest puts that transfer at almost an hour and calls it ridiculous. Another says it took an hour of sailing to reach the ship at all. A boat that sleeps in Lan Ha and boards on the Ha Long side pays that crossing twice, and on one night it is a real slice of the holiday. The road comes up again and again. One guest says two hours became three because of stops at shops. A second describes two stops going down and one coming back, the last of them a room you sit in while someone sells to you. A third, writing separately, calls every rest stop on the bus a sales stop. That is three people, months apart, describing the same journey, and the Hanoi run is where it happens.

What do guests complain about?

The complaints are specific. Beyond the two-boat swap and the shopping stops, guests list Wi-Fi charged for on board, water charged for at meals, and a cash-versus-card conversion one guest worked out to be worse than paying the 11 per cent tax. Also a kayak session cancelled on a trip where the listing sells kayaking, stains on a mattress, and a snooker table with balls missing. The praise runs the other way, and most of it is for the guides. Guests name Victor, Kevin (who also goes by Hung), Eric and Cody again and again. Whoever meets you in the hotel lobby is the largest variable in this product, and it is the one thing the rate sheet cannot sell you.

On the operator’s terms, one child under four sharing with the parents is free and a second pays 50%; children from four to eight pay 75% and from nine the adult rate. The balance is due three days before departure, cancellations go in writing to the operator, and a no-show pays in full. If the authorities stop the cruise for weather, the operator refunds or reschedules, less any services already used.

Who it suits

Couples and pairs of friends who want the quieter bay at a best-value price, who will spend the afternoon in the water rather than inspecting the joinery, and who will ask for the hull by name in writing before paying. On that basis it earns its place among the Lan Ha boats.

Who should look elsewhere

Anyone who needs the room they saw in the photographs. The gap between the two hulls is not a bad-day problem that a complaint fixes, and no cabin grade on the rate sheet closes it, so if certainty about the room is what you are buying, look elsewhere. The same goes for anyone flying out that evening: the tender and the road together make the second afternoon unpredictable.
