La Regina Royal gets you into Sung Sot Cave by three o’clock on the day you board, from a steel boat of twenty suites that takes about fifty guests on the main Ha Long route. Every room is at least 26 m². The tender leaves Tuan Chau Marina at 12:30. Her entry grade, the Noble Suite, was $255 a night for two on the halongbaytours.com listing read on 6 August 2026, which comes to from $128 per person, two sharing.

Listings date her to 2018. The operator, La Regina Cruises, also runs La Regina Grand and La Regina Legend on Lan Ha. La Regina Royal is the company’s Ha Long Bay boat, with a spa, and a jacuzzi bath in each suite.

Which suite should you book?

The Noble Suite. There are twelve of them on the first floor, 26 m² each, and every one has a double jacuzzi bath. Six Imperia Suites on the second floor are also 26 m² and cost $5 more. The two Grand Royal Suites, on the second floor with a double bed, are 35 m².

One guest booked the top grade and a lower one for the same party and found both rooms alike. The operator describes all three grades by their broad windows. If a balcony matters to you, ask for a photograph of the actual room.

What does La Regina Royal cost?

The halongbaytours.com rate sheet read on 6 August 2026 quotes per cabin, for two, on the one-night trip: Noble Suite $255, Imperia Suite $260, Grand Royal Suite $290. The two-night trip is priced for the whole stay at $490, $510 and $570. The originvietnam.com sheet the same day was within $6 of the one-night figures and within $11 of the two-night ones.

Two people sharing the Noble Suite pay $128 each for the night, or $245 each for two nights. The fare covers meals, a guide, entrance fees, a kayak or rowing boat at Luon Cave, squid fishing, a welcome drink and two bottles of water; the two-night trip adds a cooking demonstration and tai chi. Spa treatments, drinks and tips are extra, and so is the road from Hanoi. La Regina’s transfer pages, read on 10 August 2026, list a shared limousine at $18 a person each way and a private car at $95.

Where does La Regina Royal go?

Round the central Ha Long islands, on a programme the operator publishes by the hour. Lunch is at 13:00 on the way out. At 15:00 you walk through Sung Sot Cave and then go ashore at Ti Top Island. The next morning, at 07:30, a kayak or bamboo boat takes you into Luon Cave. You pack at 09:00, brunch is at 09:45 and you are ashore at 11:00. The two days can run in the other order.

The two-night trip adds a day on a smaller boat: Trinh Nu Cave by kayak at 08:45, the beach at Ba Trai Dao at 10:45, lunch, a pearl farm at 14:00 and a sunset party. A guest on the one-night trip writes that you can almost still see the city from the mooring. If you want to get further out, take the second night. Our Sung Sot guide covers the cave, and Ha Long Bay sets out the rest of the route.

Where do you board, and at what time?

At La Regina’s lounge on Lot 24, Tuan Chau Marina. The operator moved La Regina Royal there on 20 April 2024; check that your ticket says Tuan Chau before you give your driver an address. Reception runs from 11:30 and the tender goes at 12:30. Which harbour you leave from explains why the name matters to your driver.

What do guests complain about?

Upkeep. Guests describe chipped and poorly kept furniture, from one who says the rooms survive a two-second glance and not a closer look. One guest found the water in the cabin’s jacuzzi bath yellow, with particles in it. Another found ants in the room and no fresh bottle of water put out for new arrivals. One guest reports cockroaches in the cabin and three people ill after a dinner where every dish came with beef despite a card on the table saying no beef. Two three-star guests in December 2024 say the boat and rooms look older than the pictures.

Then the small-boat problem. Twenty cabins means nowhere else to sit. One guest describes loud passengers and a crew who made no attempt to move them. Another wanted to sit indoors out of the cold and found rap playing at a volume the bar staff declined to lower. Wi-Fi reaches the restaurant and bar, the operator says, and connectivity is limited.

The good reviews are warm about the crew, often by name.

Who it suits

Couples who want the classic Ha Long stops at a low suite price, who will book the Noble Suite, and who can absorb one tired room without the holiday turning on it. It is on the small-boats list, which is the right frame for it. If you have not settled on a bay, read how the three bays differ first.

Who should look elsewhere

Anyone buying on the word luxury. The boat sits on our luxury list and some of its own guests say it does not match the word: one calls it a 2-3 star standard. If you want the same money on a flatter record, work through best value and ask about upkeep before price.

Facts on this page come from lareginacruises.com (read 10 August and 14 October 2026) and the halongbaytours.com and originvietnam.com listings read on 6 August 2026. Cancellation terms are set by whoever sells you the cabin; get them in writing.

Why people book La Regina Royal

Book it if

  • You want the classic Ha Long stops, Sung Sot Cave, Ti Top and Luon Cave, on a 20-cabin boat from $128 per person, two sharing, on a listing read on 6 August 2026
  • A jacuzzi bath in the cabin appeals; the twelve Noble Suites on the first floor each have one
  • A crew that guests name individually matters more to you than furniture that photographs better than it looks

Our read

La Regina Royal is a small steel boat on the classic Ha Long route, and her cheapest suite is $255 a night for two. Our read is that the crew are the reason it still gets five stars and the upkeep is the reason it collects one-stars. Book the Noble Suite, ask for recent cabin photographs, and do not pay extra for the grade above it.

The review-count bar is on a log scale: the boats we can score run from 1 review to 515, so a straight scale would squash almost everything against the left edge.

Fewer reviews than the median boat

This is not our score. It is the aggregate across the listings we track, and shows where La Regina Royal Cruise sits against the 108 boats we can score: a median of9.5 on 87 reviews. Scores in this bay cluster near the top (8–9.9), which is why we show you the review count as well.

That number is what we collected and read. The score beside it is the average the listings publish, computed on 103.

Good to know

Who should look at something else
  • Upkeep faults would end the trip; guests report chipped furniture, ants, cockroaches in a cabin and yellow water in a cabin jacuzzi
  • You want a balcony; the operator describes the cabins by their broad windows, so ask for a photograph of the room before you pay
  • You cannot walk away from other passengers; at fifty guests there is nowhere to go, and two guests describe noise the crew would not deal with
