Amanda Legend Cruise

Book Amanda Legend for the headcount. The boat has five cabins, and of the 60 boats we track only Prince has fewer, with four; Orchid Premium also has five. It is not expensive for that. A night for two in the cheapest cabin was $255 on the rate sheet we read on 6 August 2026, while the median entry cabin across the 51 boats we hold a one-night sheet for, read on different dates, is $310.

What do you get on a five-cabin boat?

Room, and very few neighbours. The Amanda Cruises website, amandacruise.com.vn, which sells the Legend under its own name, lists one Legend Suite of 40 m² on the upper floor, then two Junior Premium cabins of 25 m² and two Junior cabins of 20 m² on the floor below. Every class is sold for two adults, and the Amanda site allows a child under five on top, with an extra bed at a surcharge.

Every class has a bathtub and a large window facing the water on the Amanda site’s cabin notes. The same site’s summary says all five cabins have a jacuzzi tub and a rainfall shower, but one listing gives the jacuzzi to the Legend Suite only, so ask if it matters to you. The cabin photographs show dark wood panelling, a sheer canopy over the bed and stained-glass lamps on the bedside tables. On the Amanda site’s list, every cabin gets two glasses of wine and fresh fruit; the Suite gets a bottle instead, plus afternoon tea (which the Junior Premium also gets) and half a lobster per guest.

The evening programme comes from the same site. A herbal foot bath is brought to your cabin at no charge. There is squid fishing, a Sky Bar for drinks, and a fashion show of traditional costume called “Footsteps of Heritage”. Massage is extra. A kitchen menu runs between meals, from 15:30 to 16:30 and again from 21:30 to 23:00.

What does each cabin cost?

Prices are per cabin for two, from one listing’s rate sheets read on 6 August 2026. The three-day column is the price of the whole trip.

The step from Junior Premium to the Suite is $25 a night and adds 15 m². Those rates are the highest the listing showed, and the price you are quoted may be lower.

Can you get the Legend Suite?

Only if you book early, because there is one. Every other cabin on the boat comes in a pair, and the Suite is the cabin that makes the price argument for this boat, so a couple on a fixed date may find it gone and be offered a Junior Premium at 25 m² instead. Ask the seller to confirm the Suite by name on the invoice, and have a second date ready.

How old is Amanda Legend?

Nobody agrees. Three listings give three years: 2011, 2013 and 2024. The 2024 figure could be a rebuild or a major refit, and no source says which. None of the pages we read gives a refit date either. Before you pay, ask the seller when the Legend was last refurbished and for photographs of your cabin class taken this year. What happens on the one-night trip?

The Amanda site’s timetable runs from noon to eleven the next morning. Check-in is in the lounge at No. 12, Tuan Chau Marina, between 11:30 and noon; the shuttle from Hanoi, if you book it, collects from the Old Quarter from 7:45. You board at 12:00 and lunch is served as the boat heads out. At 14:30 you get ready for Sung Sot Cave. At 16:00 the boat moves to the Trinh Nu area, where you can kayak, or sit on the beach behind the cave.

Back on board, the sunset party and a spring-roll cooking lesson start between 17:30 and 18:00, happy hour runs until 18:30, and dinner is at 19:30, laid on deck when the weather allows. The boat then anchors for the night.

Tai chi is at 6:15. Breakfast, from 6:30 to 7:00, includes pho and an egg station, and at 7:30 a tender takes you to Titop Island to climb to the viewpoint or swim. You clear your cabin at 9:30, eat an early buffet lunch at 10:00 and reach the marina at about 11:00. You are back in Hanoi mid-afternoon, between 2 and 3pm depending on the seller.

The Amanda site also publishes a one-night route that heads into Bai Tu Long instead, via Thien Canh Son cave, and one listing sells a version with Luon Cave by kayak or rowed bamboo boat. Ask which route your date sails. Bai Tu Long cruises covers that side of the bay.

Does a third day add much on the Legend?

On price, yes. On the same listing, 36 of the 46 boats with both sheets charge more for the second night, relative to the first, than the Legend does for a Junior. Take the one-night rate from the $480 trip price and the second night costs $225, 88% of the first; across the three classes the ratio runs from 1.83 to 1.88, where the median for those 46 boats is 1.94 by boat.

The catch, on the Ha Long and Lan Ha version of the trip, is that you spend much of the middle day off the Legend. A day boat collects you at 8:30 for Trinh Nu Cave, Three Peaches Beach and a pearl farm with its museum, serves lunch on board and returns you at 15:30. Day one swaps the cave order, with Titop at 14:30 and Sung Sot at 16:00, and the last morning is Luon Cave at 7:30 before an 11:00 landing. The Amanda site also lists a Bai Tu Long version with no day boat; ask which one your price covers. Two days or three sets out the general case.

What does the price include?

The basics. Two sources list a welcome drink, tea, coffee and bottled water for the cabin, plus entrance tickets for the sights. One adds the spring-roll class, an English-speaking guide and an en-suite bathroom.

The shuttle from Hanoi and tips are listed as extra by two sources each. One source adds massage, and a surcharge over Christmas, New Year and Tet. Sources disagree on whether drinks, kayaking and all meals are included. A buy-two-get-one happy hour only makes sense if drinks are billed, and nobody publishes a drinks list for this boat. Which travellers does a five-cabin boat suit?

Couples who want a quiet night, and a couple with a child under five, who fit in any cabin class on the Amanda site’s terms. A small group of friends could take most of the boat between them; ask the seller whether whole-boat bookings are taken. The small boats and best value categories hold the alternatives.

When is a boat this small the wrong choice?

When you want company in the evening. The size that makes the Legend quiet also means the sunset party and the bar depend on a group of ten or so, and on who they are. Families of four will probably need two cabins, since every class is sold for two adults plus one child under five; ask whether the extra bed takes an older child. If you want a pool, a gym or a new boat, nobody publishes the first two for the Legend, and the new boats category collects recent launches. The Ha Long Bay page lists everything else on this water.

What can’t we confirm about Amanda Legend?

The size of a full sailing. One listing, read on 6 August 2026, gives a capacity of 15 guests; nobody else publishes a figure, and nobody publishes the length or a deck count. Nobody mentions a pool or a gym, and no cabin description includes a balcony.

Three listings give three launch years: 2011, 2013 and 2024. Two sources call the hull wooden, the Amanda site among them; a third lists it as a metal boat, while describing a wooden-junk design. A jacuzzi in the Junior classes rests on the Amanda site’s summary alone. That site names the 25 m² class “Junior Suite” on its cabin list; the rate sheet calls it Junior Premium, and we have used that name. Listings quote the same three cabin sizes, though one gives the Junior as 19 m². The three-day inclusions list kayaking at the Dark and Bright Cave, but the hour-by-hour version we read does not place that stop.

Two listings advertise Amanda Legend from $128 a person, read on 6 August 2026. That is the lowest per-person figure, not a cabin price, and it tells you less than a per-cabin rate does, so the prices on this page are for a cabin.
