Every cabin class on Athena Luxury comes with a private balcony or, in two cabins, a sun terrace, and ten of them are the entry Deluxe Balcony. That cabin cost $280 for one night on a reseller’s list read on 6 August 2026, which is from $140 per person, two sharing. Her owner, Athena Group, calls her a five-star ship. She is steel, built in 2016, and made her first voyage on 1 July 2017. Guests board by tender from Ha Long International Cruise Port on the Bai Chay side of Ha Long Bay.

What is on board Athena Luxury?

Three decks and 21 or 22 cabins, depending on which of the owner’s pages you read. Cabins fill the lower two; the middle deck also holds the 45-seat restaurant and bar, and the open sundeck on top has a second bar, a coffee lounge, a spa and a sauna. Berths are given as 42 adults and six children, with a crew of 30.

Evenings are low-key. The sundeck has a projector screen for films, and the morning starts with tai chi up there at 06:30. The owner’s three-day timetable mentions an outdoor jacuzzi, and a guest in April 2026 spent an evening in it with a cold beer.

Is the cheapest balcony cabin on Athena Luxury good enough?

For two people, yes: 25 m², a double or twin bed and its own balcony on the first deck. The Elegance Balcony one deck up adds 3 m² for $50 more a night. Rates are per cabin, halongbaytours’ published maximums read on 6 August 2026; where sources disagree, the table gives the range.

Class Cabins Deck Size Sleeps 1 night 2 nights
Deluxe Balcony 10 1st 25 m² 2 + 1 child $280 $560
Elegance Balcony 6 or 7 2nd 28 m² 2 + 1 child $330 $620
Premium Terrace 2 2nd 30 to 32 m² 2 + 1 child $400 $760
Family Triple 2 1st 30 to 35 m² 3 + 1 child $480 $920
Elegance Family Connecting 1 2nd 45 to 60 m² 4 + 2 to 4 children on request on request

The Premium Terrace swaps the balcony for a private sun terrace, and at $400 it comes to $200 each for two. The Family Triple has a double and a single bed; three adults in it pay $160 each for the night.

How much does Athena Luxury cost, and is the second night cheaper?

From $140 per person, two sharing, for one night. The two-night column above is the price of the whole trip. For the Deluxe Balcony the second night costs exactly what the first does, $280; for the other three priced classes it is $40 cheaper than the first night.

Children follow the owner’s rules. One child under five sharing the parents’ bed is free; a second child under five on an extra bed, or a child aged five to ten sharing a bed, pays 75% of an adult fare; anyone eleven or older pays in full. A third person on an extra bed pays as an adult. halongbaytours, whose rates are used here, draws its own lines: free up to three, 75% from four to eleven, full from twelve. Ask your seller which bands apply, and see the cost guide for the wider market.

What does the overnight trip look like, hour by hour?

The owner publishes one timetable for its Athena ships, and it runs like this.

Time Day 1
12:00 Check in at the port’s waiting lounge
12:30 Tender out to the ship; welcome drink and safety talk
12:45 Lunch while the ship heads out
14:45 Stop near Bo Nau (Pelican) Cave, tender on to Sung Sot Cave
15:45 Titop Island: the beach, or the steps up to the lookout
17:00 Back on board as the ship moves to its overnight spot near Titop
18:00 Happy hour, two drinks for the price of one, until 19:00
18:30 Cooking demonstration of Vietnamese dishes
19:00 Set dinner, Western and Vietnamese
20:30 Films, games, squid fishing or a massage

After a light breakfast at 07:00 on day two you go to Luon Cave at 08:00, where the kayaks are free and a bamboo rowing boat with a local boatman costs a 50,000 VND public ticket per person. Bags go outside the door at 09:00, brunch is a buffet at 09:30 on the way back, and the tender lands you at the port at 10:45. Between 1 May and 31 August the owner swaps the order, with Luon on day one and Titop on day two.

Does Athena Luxury actually cruise much?

Not much, and this is the main thing to know before you book. On the owner’s timetable the ship leaves around lunchtime and is at her first stop by 14:45; after that every excursion goes by tender. She moves once more in the evening to her overnight mooring, then sails again on the morning of day two, out to Luon and back to port. A guest in October 2025 put the afternoon sailing at about an hour before the ship stopped. A German guest a month later called it a floating middle-class hotel. If watching the karsts slide past from your balcony is the point, pick a ship with a longer route.

The three-day trip adds a second limit. On day two the owner puts guests on a separate transfer boat from 08:15 until mid-afternoon, for Me Cung (Maze) Cave, a pearl farm and kayaking around Tung Sau, and lunch is part of that boat day. A guest who did two nights in early 2026 found that boat much plainer and every drink on it charged. See two days or three.

What is not included on Athena Luxury?

Drinks, the Hanoi transfer, spa treatments, laundry and tips, according to the owner’s exclusions list. Meals, the guide, entrance fees, kayaking, tai chi and squid fishing are included. The halongbaytours rates in the table already include tax and service charge.

Budget for water at dinner. A guest in February 2025 was surprised it was not served free with the evening meal, though water, juice and coffee came with breakfast and brunch. The owner’s own limousine from the Hanoi Old Quarter is from $20 per person. Wifi drops out among the karsts, the owner warns. More in what is not included.

What do guests say about the cabins and food?

The cabins split opinion, as you might expect on a ship launched in 2017; our boat-age guide explains what to ask before you pay. One guest’s balcony room in October 2025 had a jacuzzi tub; another, in September 2025, liked the trip but called the room outdated. A guest in February 2025 reported a musty smell from the air conditioning and a rusty bidet head.

On food, vegetarians in March 2024 found plenty on the buffet; the owner asks for dietary needs at least three days before departure.

Who is Athena Luxury for?

Couples who want a balcony for one night, and families, because the triple and the connecting cabin give a party of three or four a room together. First timers get the standard stops in a tidy timetable.

Look elsewhere if you want quiet water. A guest in February 2025 found the bay crowded with boats running the same cave, beach and squid-fishing routine, and this ship runs that same Sung Sot, Titop and Luon circuit; the quietest bay guide sets out the alternatives. Look elsewhere too if you want drinks folded into the price or a ship that is on the move for most of the afternoon. For comparison, see our luxury and best-value lists.

Where do the sources disagree on Athena Luxury?

On the cabin count first. The owner says 21 cabins, yet its own class counts add up to 22, and its newer website says 22 on one page and 21 on another. We cannot tell you which is right. One reseller lists six Elegance cabins against the owner’s seven, which would make the total 21.

Sizes differ too. The owner’s two websites give the Premium Terrace 30 and 32 m², and the connecting cabin 60 and 58 m²; two resellers list the Family Triple at 30 m² against the owner’s 35, and one gives the connecting cabin 45.

The owner prints the same hull and crew figures for this ship and her sister Athena Royal, so some may be copied. Its “from 160 USD” per person for an Athena two-day trip names no ship, so we have not used it as a cabin rate.

Why people book Athena Luxury

Book it if

  • You are two people who want a private balcony for one night, and $280 for the cabin (a reseller's rate, read 6 August 2026) fits the plan
  • You are a family: the owner lists a 35 m² triple with a balcony, and one child under five sharing your bed sails free
  • You want the classic first-timer stops in one night: Sung Sot Cave, the Titop viewpoint and a morning paddle at Luon

Good to know

Who should look at something else
  • You want the ship itself to sail for hours; on the owner's programme it anchors early and every excursion goes by tender
  • You expect drinks with dinner to be included; the owner lists drinks as extra, and one guest had to pay for water at dinner
  • You are booking three days for the big ship; the owner moves guests to a separate day boat for most of day two
What to ask before you pay
9
9 questions, each one tied to something this boat does not publish. Almost none of the cruise pages we surveyed tells you what to ask. Take this list to whoever quotes you.

The moneyWhere the spread hides

How much is the Hanoi transfer, and is it shared or private?
Our sources agree it is not in the fare, but none of them publishes the price. Ask for both options — the gap between a seat on a shared van and a private car is usually the biggest single add-on.
What is the single-occupancy supplement?
Not published by any source we read. Common on this coast and often +50% or more.
Child and infant rates?
Not published for this boat by any source we read — the child tables we found are the sellers’ own, identical across every boat they list. Ask for the age bands, not just the discount.

The logisticsThe mistakes that cost a morning

Confirm it is Ha Long International Cruise Port.
The piers serving these bays are roughly twenty minutes apart and drivers do occasionally go to the wrong one.
What time is check-in, and what time is cabin checkout?
No source we read publishes either for this boat. Confirm both when you book, especially if you have a flight on the last day.
Which stops does the 3 days · 2 nights add?
The route list we publish is the union across itineraries; no source says which legs the longer trip reaches. This is usually the reason to take it.

If it goes wrongNobody publishes this — get it in writing

What happens if the port closes for weather?
The provincial authority closes the port and every boat stays in. No source publishes this operator’s policy. Ask whether it is a refund or a date change, in writing.
Which cancellation ladder applies to your booking, and what deposit?
We found 7 different ladders across our sources for boats on this coast — free cancellation ends anywhere from 15 to 30 days out. It depends on who you book through, not on this boat. Get yours in writing before the deposit.
Is a cave closure refunded or substituted?
Caves close at short notice here. Substitution is normal; a refund is not. Worth knowing which you are agreeing to.
We do not host guest reviews yet, and we will not reprint a score we cannot audit. This list is what we would want in their place — take it to whoever quotes you, us included.
Boarding times and the cancellation ladder

The boat's own timings

No source we read publishes check-in or checkout times for Athena Luxury Cruise. Ask when you book — on this coast checkout is usually between 09:30 and 11:00, and the difference decides whether you get a last morning on the water.

Cancellation — not a property of this boat

We checked every cancellation ladder in our sources. They differ by who you book through, not by which boat you sail: the same boat carries different terms on different listings. So we will not print one and call it Athena Luxury Cruise's policy.

Across the 7 distinct ladders we found, free cancellation ends somewhere between 15 and 30 days before check-in. After that the fee climbs to 100%.

How many cabins does Athena Luxury Cruise have?

Counts disagree even inside the owner: athenagrouphalong.com/athena-luxury (crawl 2026-08-10) says "21 high-end cabins" and "Passenger Suites: 21" but its five class counts add up to 22 (10 + 7 + 2 + 2 + 1); athenacruise.com (crawl 2026-10-11) home says "22 spacious en-suite cabins" and its story page "only 21 cabins". halongbaytours "21 Cabins", halongbaycruises "Launched: 2017 21 Cabin(s)" and besthalongcruises "21 cabins" (read 2026-08-06). Shown value is 21. We show the most widely reported figure and recommend confirming it with the operator before you pay.

Which pier does Athena Luxury Cruise leave from?

Ha Long International Cruise Port. The piers serving these bays are roughly twenty minutes apart and drivers do occasionally go to the wrong one, so name it when you arrange your own transfer.
