Ha Long Bay cruises, 2 days and 1 night

Two days and one night is what most boats are built around, and unless you have a specific reason to stay longer it is the trip to book. Of the 92 boats we publish, 91 sell it; the exception is Heritage Line Violet, which now runs only two-night trips.

How the day runs

The shape is consistent across operators. A van collects you from Hanoi around eight, reaches the pier between half eleven and half twelve, and lunch is served as the boat leaves. The afternoon is a cave and a kayak or swimming stop. Evening is on deck. The next morning brings an early activity, brunch while sailing back, and disembarkation before noon, putting you in Hanoi mid-afternoon. Be honest with yourself about the arithmetic: of roughly twenty-eight hours door to door, about seven are in a vehicle. The expressway itself takes about two and a half hours, but on the timings above the shared van’s hotel round stretches each leg to about three and a half. The night on the water is the point, and it is worth it, but nobody tells you about the road in advance.

What a cabin for two costs

We hold a two-day cabin rate sheet for 82 of the 91 boats we publish that run it: 63 from two listings read on 6 August 2026, four from the same two listings re-read on 8 October, three re-read from one of them on 14 October, and twelve from the operators’ own tariffs read between 10 August and 14 October. On each sheet we took the cheapest cabin that sleeps two. The median is $310 a night for the cabin. The middle half sits between about $280 and $355, the cheapest starts at $210 (La Regina Classic) and the dearest at $846 (Ginger). Thirty-four of the 82 start under $300, 36 between $300 and $399, and twelve at $400 or more.

Read the figures as numbers taken from a listing on a date, not as what you will pay, and not as a ceiling either. An Aspira guest in 2023 paid $600 a night for the president suite, which the listing we read prices at $470. Which bay, and which pier

The bay decides more of your day than the boat does. Of the 91 boats, 46 sail Lan Ha, 31 sail Ha Long and 14 sail Bai Tu Long (counted 13 October 2026). On one night you will not see more than one of them properly, so choose the bay first and the boat second. The three-bay comparison is the page to read if you have not decided.

Sixty-seven of the 91 boats board at Tuan Chau, twenty-two at the Ha Long International Cruise Port, one at Hon Gai and one, Venezia, at Beo Harbour in Cat Ba town (counted 14 October 2026). Boat size matters more on one night

With only one afternoon, the queue for the tender to the cave is time you do not get back. Thirty-five of the 89 two-day boats with a cabin count have twenty cabins or fewer, and the median boat has twenty-two. A small boat sends everyone to the cave at once. The small boats page lists them.

When to book three days instead

Book the longer trip if the bay itself is the reason you came to Vietnam, since it adds a whole day with no van in it. The trade-offs are set out in how many days to spend: two or three.

The extra night is not cheap. On the listing rates we could compare cabin by cabin for 70 boats, read between 6 August and 8 October 2026, the whole three-day trip costs a median of 1.94 times the two-day one for the same cabin.
