Book one night on this boat, not two. One guest on the two-night version says the ship goes back to port each day to pick up new passengers; another says the whole crew changed between their first and second night, and preferred the first lot. On one night you get the whole of the programme: Cong Do by kayak in the afternoon, Thien Canh Son Cave in the morning, and back at Ha Long International Cruise Port by 10:45. On the halongbaytours.com listing read on 6 August 2026, the cheapest cabin for two was $260 for the night: from $130 per person, two sharing.

Signature Halong belongs to the Athena group, which also runs Athena Royal, Athena Luxury and a larger sister, Signature Royal, on the same website. This page is about the twelve-cabin boat. She is wooden, 52 metres long over three decks, with a crew of twenty, and agencies date her to 2013. There is an outdoor jacuzzi and a spa whose massages you book through the cruise manager. Wifi is on board and limited.

Which cabin should you book?

The Senior Suite, if you want a balcony. The Junior Suites on the first deck have windows and no balcony; every grade above them, on the second deck, has one. These are the prices for one cabin, the highest rate the halongbaytours.com listing showed for each grade on 6 August 2026. Sizes, counts and decks are from the operator’s suite pages.

Cabin Size How many Deck Outside One night, per cabin Two nights, per cabin for the whole trip
Junior Suite 19.5 m² double, 26 m² twin 4, plus a connecting pair First Window $260 $500
Signature Senior Suite 28 m² 4 Second Balcony $286 $550
Exclusive Family Suite (three guests) 32 m² 1 Second Private terrace $530 $998
Elite Family Suite (four guests, two connecting rooms) 45 m² 1 Second Balcony $720 $1,370

The $26 between the Junior and the Senior buys the balcony, the upper deck and 8.5 m² more than the double Junior. Under the operator’s child policy one child under five shares a bed free, a second under five on an extra bed pays 75%, five to ten pay 75%, and eleven and over count as adults.

Two guests report ending up somewhere other than what they booked. One paid $50 on arrival for an upgrade to a two-room cabin with two balconies and thought it excellent value. The other was put in the honeymoon suite after a booking mix-up and got a large private balcony off the stern out of it. Both were happy.

What does the fare include?

The cabin, every meal on board, a welcome drink and cold towel, kayaking, the cave visits, swimming and the walk, squid fishing, a guide, entrance fees, the service charge and insurance. Drinks, the spa, laundry, VAT and tips are extra, and so is the bamboo boat at Vung Vieng on the two-night trip, a public ticket of 50,000 dong a head. What is not included covers the rest.

The road from Hanoi is extra. The Athena group runs a 15-seat limousine from the Old Quarter to the port and private cars for two- and three-day trips; have the fare put on your quote. Getting from Hanoi to Ha Long covers the alternatives.

Where does Signature go?

Into Bai Tu Long Bay, from the Sun Group terminal at Bai Chay. You check in at the port’s waiting lounge at 12:00 and the tender leaves at 12:45. The operator’s terms say the boat does not wait: if you miss the tender you pay for your own. The afternoon is spent around Cong Do, kayaking, swimming and on a beach. Next morning you climb into Thien Canh Son Cave, with a white-sand beach below it. Cabins are cleared at nine, brunch is at half past, and the tender lands you at 10:45.

The two-night trip moves you to a day boat for the middle day: a kayak into Thay Cave, then the floating village of Vung Vieng, seen from a kayak or a rowed bamboo boat, and lunch and tea on board. Given what the guests above say about the changeover, read two days or three before you choose it. Give your driver the full name of the terminal, because the harbours here are easy to confuse.

If the authorities close the bay before your arrival day you are refunded in full, and a two-night trip cut to one is charged as one night. The operator’s cancellation scale depends on the number of cabins, so read the one printed on your booking.

Why not two nights on Signature?

The two-night structure is the substantive complaint, and the guest who raised it says they would have given four stars to a single night. Food is that guest’s other complaint: they wanted Vietnamese food in Vietnam and say the kitchen cooks for western tastes. One guest describes a cruise manager who would not wait five minutes for them at a stop and left with the group, explaining that the policy was not to wait. A four-star guest, who otherwise liked the trip, says their manager was occasionally rude and not inclusive of people from different cultures. Another review says restaurant service was poor and the staff unfriendly.

Against that, the guides are the strongest signal in the good reviews. They are named individually by different parties on different dates, Tom in five reviews. Two guests separately say the kitchen took a vegetarian in the group seriously and rebuilt the menu around them.

Who it suits

Couples and small families taking one night, who want quieter water than the main Ha Long channel and a boat of twelve cabins. Families of four, who can take the Elite suite’s two connecting rooms. See what else runs this side on the Bai Tu Long list.

Who should look elsewhere

Anyone booking two nights on the assumption that the second is more of the first, and anyone who tends to run late at stops. If two nights is what you want, the best-value list and how the three bays differ are the two pages to read before you pick another boat.

Where these facts come from

The pier, the times, both programmes, the suite sizes, counts and decks, the inclusions, the late-arrival rule and the child and weather terms come from signaturehalongcruise.com, read on 14 October 2026; halongbaytours.com and besthalongcruises.com name the same pier. Length, decks and crew are from the group’s earlier site, athenagrouphalong.com, read on 10 August 2026, and the launch year from two agencies. Prices are from the halongbaytours.com listing read on 6 August 2026 and move with season, so confirm yours on the quote. Guest remarks are from reviews we collected.

The review-count bar is on a log scale: the boats we can score run from 1 review to 515, so a straight scale would squash almost everything against the left edge.

Fewer reviews than the median boat

This is not our score. It is the aggregate across the listings we track, and shows where Signature Cruise sits against the 108 boats we can score: a median of9.5 on 87 reviews. Scores in this bay cluster near the top (8–9.9), which is why we show you the review count as well.

That number is what we collected and read. The score beside it is the average the listings publish, computed on 405.
