A quiet night in Bai Tu Long Bay for $105 per person, two sharing, is what La Regina Classic sells. That figure is half the $210 halongbaytours listed for a Deluxe Ocean View cabin when we read it on 6 August 2026. Several guests write about how few boats share the water up here. One, sailing in May 2025, counted three boats anchored for the night in their part of the bay, their own included. The crew is what reviewers mention most, often by name.

What does $105 a head get you on La Regina Classic?

A cabin on a 22-cabin boat with four grades, a 48-seat restaurant and a 10-seat bar, and one night on the water. The cabin count is confirmed by the owner’s class pages (10 + 8 + 2 + 2), halongbaytours and besthalongcruises; originvietnam alone says 20. The owner puts the restaurant and bar on the third deck. Two resellers describe the hull as steel or metal, and the owner does not say.

The owner’s copy leans on “Oriental design” and calls the boat luxurious, but it never claims five stars, and halongbaytours files La Regina Classic under its budget cruises. In its January 2023 launch article the owner describes the colour scheme as deep brown wood set against white.

Is this Classic 1 or Classic 2?

This page is about the 22-cabin boat, which the owner and some resellers call “La Regina Classic 1”. La Regina Classic 2 is a smaller ship with 16 rooms and 22 m² Deluxe Balcony cabins, sold on its own page by halongbaytours and given its own photo album by the owner. Check which of the two your voucher names before you pay.

Is La Regina Classic an old boat?

It reads as one, whatever the build year, and the build year itself is in dispute. Halongbaytours says 2022, besthalongcruises 2023, originvietnam 2018. In January 2023 the owner described it as one of its three newest boats without giving a year. Our guide on how old your boat really is explains why these dates drift.

Guests keep using the word. “A bit old” comes up in two English reviews, a French guest calls the boat rustic, and a Spanish guest says it looks old but is very clean. The sharper complaint is smell. A guest on the first deck in October 2025 noticed diesel and old wood and says the crew tried an air purifier; a Spanish guest in August 2025 also reported a fuel smell in the cabin. All ten Deluxe cabins are on that first deck. If you are sensitive to it, the Premium Ocean View on deck two costs $10 more per cabin at halongbaytours, which is the cheapest fix we can see.

WiFi is the other gap. The same October 2025 guest had no connection in the cabin and had to climb to the third deck for a signal. Halongbaytours says coverage depends on the cruising area, and originvietnam calls it very limited.

Where does La Regina Classic board?

At Ha Long International Cruise Port, on the Bai Chay side. The owner’s itinerary, besthalongcruises, the Google listing and a guest who sailed in May 2025 all agree on it. Originvietnam’s own itinerary ends with a speedboat back to Tuan Chau Marina, so if you book through them, ask where you board. Our harbour guide explains why the pier matters for your transfer time.

How does the night run?

On the owner’s own timetable, you get about 23 hours aboard, from boarding just after midday to disembarking at eleven the next morning, with something planned in most of them.

Time Day 1
08:00–08:30 Optional hotel pick-up in Hanoi’s Old Quarter
11:30 Express check-in at Ha Long International Cruise Port
12:15 Board, welcome drink, safety briefing; the boat heads out
13:15 Lunch in the restaurant
15:30 Thien Canh Son Cave, which sits high on its island; wear trainers for the climb
17:30 Happy hour on deck at sunset
18:00 Spring-roll class on the sundeck
19:30 Dinner, in the restaurant or up on the sundeck
21:00 Squid fishing off the reception deck
Time Day 2
06:30 Tai chi, up on the top deck
07:00 A small breakfast
07:45 Vung Vieng fishing village: paddle a kayak, or sit in a rowed bamboo boat
09:00 Back aboard to check out; bags go outside the cabin door
09:45 Brunch while the boat returns to port
11:00 Disembark

Treat the order as the owner’s plan. One guest visited the fishing village on the first afternoon and a cave and a beach the next morning, and another names a different cave. A guest sailing in May 2025 put sunrise at 5.20 and thought it worth the alarm. For getting to Bai Chay from the capital, see Hanoi to Ha Long.

Which of the four cabin grades is worth paying for?

For most couples the Deluxe Ocean View at $210 a cabin is the booking; the Terrace Suite at $290 is the only grade that changes what the night feels like. Prices below are per cabin, one night, two guests, read on 6 August 2026. Originvietnam labelled its figures low season (May to August).

Grade Size Cabins Deck halongbaytours originvietnam
Deluxe Ocean View 15 m² 10 1st $210 $203
Premium Ocean View 16 m² (originvietnam: 18) 8 2nd $220 $211
Suite 23 m² (halongbaytours: 22) 2 2nd $250 $231
Terrace Suite 27 m² 2 2nd, at the bow $290 $249

The 15 m² and 27 m² sizes agree across three sources. The cabin counts and decks are the owner’s, repeated word for word by originvietnam. The two Terrace Suites are the only cabins with a private balcony, and a guest who took one in January 2026 says that balcony was why the trip felt private. The Suite adds a sitting area but no outdoor space.

Deluxe, Premium and Suite come as double or twin; the Terrace Suite is double only. A guest in 2024 who had paid for separate beds was given a shared double, so get “twin” written on the confirmation.

Nobody sells a 3-day, 2-night trip on La Regina Classic in the sources we hold. If you were weighing a second night, our two days or three guide covers what you lose.

What is included, and what is not?

The owner’s 2-day package covers an English- and Vietnamese-speaking guide, the meals on the timetable, kayaking, the bamboo rowing boat, squid fishing, sightseeing tickets, a welcome drink and two bottles of water per cabin. Halongbaytours counts the meals as two lunches, one dinner and one breakfast.

Outside the price: road transfers from Hanoi, drinks from the bar, tips, and the spa and massage the owner mentions after dinner. One guest in May 2026 found little for an Indian vegetarian at lunch, so send dietary needs with the booking. Our list of what cruise prices leave out has the usual extras.

Who is La Regina Classic right for?

Couples and small groups who want a near-empty Bai Tu Long anchorage for one night at around $105 each, and who will forgive an older boat for that. Anyone who has to work on board should look elsewhere, given the signal reports above.

Skip it if you want new fittings or a boat that earns the word luxury; our luxury list is the place to start. Skip it too if you want two nights. The owner sells the Premium cabins for two adults and a child, but halongbaytours lists no children in any grade, so families should ask the operator directly.

For other boats on this water, see Bai Tu Long Bay cruises, the Bai Tu Long Bay overview, our guide to Bai Tu Long cruises, and best-value cruises across all three bays.

What nobody publishes about this boat

Nobody publishes the total passenger capacity, the number of decks or the length. The third-deck restaurant tells us there are at least three decks.

The Google listing cannot tell this boat from La Regina Classic 2, so a review there may describe the other ship. One guest in January 2025 says a cancellation was refused, so ask for the cancellation terms in writing before paying; our cancellation guide shows what to look for.

Good to know

Who should look at something else
  • You want two nights; none of the sources we hold sells a 3-day trip on this boat
  • A smell of fuel or old wood in the cabin would spoil the night; two guests report it, one of them on the first deck
  • You need working internet; originvietnam calls the WiFi very limited and a guest in October 2025 had no signal in the cabin
What to ask before you pay
8
8 questions, each one tied to something this boat does not publish. Almost none of the cruise pages we surveyed tells you what to ask. Take this list to whoever quotes you.

The moneyWhere the spread hides

How much is the Hanoi transfer, and is it shared or private?
Our sources agree it is not in the fare, but none of them publishes the price. Ask for both options — the gap between a seat on a shared van and a private car is usually the biggest single add-on.
What is the single-occupancy supplement?
Not published by any source we read. Common on this coast and often +50% or more.
Child and infant rates?
Not published for this boat by any source we read — the child tables we found are the sellers’ own, identical across every boat they list. Ask for the age bands, not just the discount.

The logisticsThe mistakes that cost a morning

Confirm it is Ha Long International Cruise Port.
The piers serving these bays are roughly twenty minutes apart and drivers do occasionally go to the wrong one.
What time is check-in, and what time is cabin checkout?
No source we read publishes either for this boat. Confirm both when you book, especially if you have a flight on the last day.

If it goes wrongNobody publishes this — get it in writing

What happens if the port closes for weather?
The provincial authority closes the port and every boat stays in. No source publishes this operator’s policy. Ask whether it is a refund or a date change, in writing.
Which cancellation ladder applies to your booking, and what deposit?
We found 7 different ladders across our sources for boats on this coast — free cancellation ends anywhere from 15 to 30 days out. It depends on who you book through, not on this boat. Get yours in writing before the deposit.
Is a cave closure refunded or substituted?
Caves close at short notice here. Substitution is normal; a refund is not. Worth knowing which you are agreeing to.
We do not host guest reviews yet, and we will not reprint a score we cannot audit. This list is what we would want in their place — take it to whoever quotes you, us included.
Boarding times and the cancellation ladder

The boat's own timings

No source we read publishes check-in or checkout times for La Regina Classic Cruise. Ask when you book — on this coast checkout is usually between 09:30 and 11:00, and the difference decides whether you get a last morning on the water.

Cancellation — not a property of this boat

We checked every cancellation ladder in our sources. They differ by who you book through, not by which boat you sail: the same boat carries different terms on different listings. So we will not print one and call it La Regina Classic Cruise's policy.

Across the 7 distinct ladders we found, free cancellation ends somewhere between 15 and 30 days before check-in. After that the fee climbs to 100%.

When was La Regina Classic Cruise launched?

The owner (news article of 18 Jan 2023) calls it "one of the three newest members" without a year; halongbaytours "Built: 2022", besthalongcruises "Launched in 2023", originvietnam "Build: 2018". We show the most widely reported figure and recommend confirming it with the operator before you pay.

Why do sources name different piers for La Regina Classic Cruise?

lareginacruises.com la-regina-classic pages (crawl 2026-08-10) 2D1N itinerary "Arrive at Halong International Cruise Port - Bai Chay", but originvietnam route starts and ends at "Tuan Chau Marina" (read 2026-08-06). The owner also announced a change of La Regina Royal's terminal, so check before quoting. We show the most widely reported answer and recommend confirming it with the operator before you pay.

Which pier does La Regina Classic Cruise leave from?

Ha Long International Cruise Port. The piers serving these bays are roughly twenty minutes apart and drivers do occasionally go to the wrong one, so name it when you arrange your own transfer.

What do you not know about this boat?

No source we checked publishes: capacity, decks, length m. A further 2 figures rest on a single source. We would rather say that than fill the gap with a guess. If the operator sends us the figures we will publish them and date them.
