Details →Violet carries twelve guests at most, in six suites, and since 2 January 2026 it has sailed a two-night route through Bai Tu Long that Heritage Line calls Pearls of the Bay. The boat dates from 2009. The operator fully refurbished it for its fifteenth anniversary and returned it to service on 31 October 2024, its second overhaul in five years after a three-month renovation announced in January 2020.
Two junior suites, Water and Mountain, sit on the main deck at 32 m² each, with marble bathrooms, a jacuzzi tub and a walk-in shower. Four imperial suites of 38 m² share the upper deck. Dragon and Phoenix take the bow, with broad balconies facing forward, and Heritage Line sells them as Imperial Premium at a surcharge, so ask for the figure on your quote. Cloud and Moon sit further aft. The operator says every one of the six has a private balcony and a jacuzzi, so here the balcony and the tub come with the cheapest room too.
The numbers that follow from six suites are the reason to book. Each guest gets a sunbed on a sun deck that was extended aft in the 2024 work. There is a spa room with a steam bath and two treatment beds, meant for a couple, a library lounge upstairs, and a private dining room for up to four that has to be reserved when you book the cruise. Violet has three decks and, by two agencies’ measure, is 38 metres long. The jacuzzis are in the suites.
The programme is built around the quiet end of the bay. A cave on Cong Do island reached by a long flight of stone steps, which Heritage Line names as Thien Canh Son. Vung Vieng, the floating village, entered by boat, where families still farm fish and pearls. Kayaking among the karsts, and an afternoon at a small cove the operator says its guests have to themselves. Heritage Line says 25 to 30 ships work the area. Our guide to Bai Tu Long cruises and the Bai Tu Long bay page cover what the quieter water gives you.
You board at Tuan Chau Marina, where Heritage Line’s Welcome Lounge is Kiosk 06 on the Tuan Chau pier. The lounge opens at ten, embarkation for Bai Tu Long is at eleven, and Violet docks at the pier, so there is no tender to wait for. Arrive twenty minutes early. On the last morning you are ashore at about 10:30, and your luggage is taken to the lounge for you. Give your driver the Tuan Chau name and check it against your confirmation; which harbour you leave from sets out the alternatives.
Heritage Line starts the two-night Bai Tu Long cruise at $678 per person sharing in the low season of May to September 2026, a rack rate before any promotion. For two people in the entry suite that is $1,356 for the whole trip.
Sellers discount it. One, read on 6 August 2026, offered the new Bai Tu Long route from $469 per adult under a 20 per cent summer offer, down from $586. That is about $938 for two, roughly $418 under the operator’s rack figure. Treat it as one seller’s promotion on that date and ask whether it is still running.
A listing read on 6 August 2026 prints lower figures, $1,230 for a junior suite and $1,680 for an imperial, each for two people over two nights. The junior suite works out at $615 each for two sharing. Those rates sit against the old Ha Long route through Cua Van, Tien Ong, Sung Sot and Titop, which Violet stopped sailing when the Bai Tu Long programme began. Ask the seller whether the rate still applies to the 2026 route before you count on it.
On top of the rate, a mandatory Bai Tu Long entrance fee of $45 a head is charged separately. Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve carry a surcharge of $100 an adult. A solo traveller pays 50 per cent extra in a junior suite and 75 per cent in an imperial. A child from five to eleven sharing with two adults pays half.
Included: the excursions and transfers during the cruise, an English-speaking guide, meals, brewed coffee, tea and water, internet where the phone signal reaches, port fees, fuel and taxes. Extra: the road from Hanoi, other drinks, spa treatments, gratuities and a 3.5% card fee. originvietnam.com sells a shuttle at $43 a head for the round trip. What is not included lists the lines worth checking on any boat.
Couples, or two couples chartering between them, who want a very small boat and two unhurried nights, and who will book on Heritage Line’s terms with the cancellation dates in the diary. The luxury list and the other Bai Tu Long boats cover the rest of that money, and if the bay is still open, the three are not interchangeable.
The weak point of a twelve-guest boat is that it needs enough of them. Heritage Line’s terms set a minimum of eight paying adults per Violet departure, and if a sailing falls short the operator may cancel it with 14 days’ notice and offer an alternative. Build a spare day into any flight that depends on the cruise.
The money side is strict too. Heritage Line wants full payment at confirmation for Bai Tu Long. Cancel more than 45 days out and you are refunded in full; from 45 to 31 days you lose 20 per cent, from 30 to 16 days half, and inside 15 days all of it. Cancellation policies compares that with the rest of the bay. Children under five are not allowed aboard without the operator’s permission.
If the authorities close the bay and you hear by noon on embarkation day, you are refunded in full; a two-night trip cut short after the first night refunds half.
Look elsewhere if you want only one night: since January 2026 Violet sells the two-night trip alone. The small-boat category has boats that sell a single night.
Our view is that Violet is one of the most private ways onto Bai Tu Long: a 2009 boat refitted in 2024, six suites, twelve guests. The operator's own rate puts an entry suite at $1,356 for two over two nights, and the minimum-occupancy clause is the one thing to plan around.
32 m², private balcony, on the main deck.
38 m², private balcony, on the upper deck.
This is not our score. It is the aggregate across the listings we track, and shows where Heritage Line Violet sits against the 108 boats we can score: a median of9.5 on 87 reviews. Scores in this bay cluster near the top (8–9.9), which is why we show you the review count as well.
That number is what we collected and read. The score beside it is the average the listings publish, computed on 54.
From the operator's own published terms, read 14 Oct 2026.
