Hera Grand Luxury Cruise, a small boat out of Tuan Chau, puts a bathtub and a private balcony in its 45 m² Ocean Suite for $290 a night for two, on a listing read 6 August 2026. That is $50 more than the 35 m² Junior Suite downstairs. At $240, the Junior Suite was cheaper than the entry cabin on all but three of the 57 boats whose one-night prices we hold, each read on its own date; the median was $310.

Hera Cruises sells the boat as 13 cabins in five classes. Its inclusions list puts lobster and bird’s nest soup on the first night’s dinner. In the photographs of the Ocean Suite bathroom, an oval tub stands on a bed of black pebbles under slatted blinds. Hera Grand works the Ha Long Bay circuit on one-night and two-night programmes, boarding at No. 12 Tuan Chau Marina, where the operator keeps its waiting lounge. The same company runs another overnight boat called Hera Classic Boutique and a day boat. Nothing on this page describes either.

Which suite on Hera Grand is worth paying for?

An upstairs one, in our view. Hera Grand’s second deck holds six suites, each with a bathtub and its own outside space, and the operator says their glass walls let you look at the bay from the bed or from the bath. The two Ocean Suites of 45 m² have a balcony. The two Earth Suites and two Heaven Suites measure 60 m² and open onto a terrace; Heaven comes only as a double, Earth as a double or a twin. The operator adds a bottle of wine and a massage voucher for Earth and Heaven bookings. A guest who took the three-day trip in August 2026 called the Earth Suites “very large rooms with terrace balconies” (review).

The Junior Suites sit on the first deck. Each is 35 m², with a shower behind a large glass door and no bathtub, and the operator lists no balcony for them. They can be made up as a double, a twin or a triple. Two Junior Connecting Suites of 70 m² share that deck; they are probably two Junior rooms joined by a door, though the operator does not say so. The operator lists every class for two adults and a child under five, with an extra bed at a surcharge. One listing shows no child place in the Earth Suite and says extra beds are not available, so get the arrangement confirmed in writing.

Suite Size Deck Bath and outside space One night for two Two nights for two
Junior Suite 35 m² First Shower, no balcony listed $240 $465
Junior Connecting Suite 70 m² First Shower Not on the sheet Not on the sheet
Ocean Suite 45 m² Second Bathtub, balcony $290 $555
Earth Suite 60 m² Second Bathtub, terrace $335 $640
Heaven Suite 60 m² Second Bathtub, terrace $385 $735

Sizes and decks are the operator’s. Prices are the highest rates one listing published per cabin, read 6 August 2026; the two-night column is the price of the whole trip.

What do guests complain about on Hera Grand?

Wear on the boat, crowds on the route and paying for water at the table. The Google listing we read for Hera Grand also carries photos and reviews of the operator’s other boats, so on complaints we lean on reviews that name the Grand. The fullest is a two-star review from a family who took the three-day trip in January 2026 with two young children in an interconnecting room. They wrote that “the boat is actually a bit shabby” (review), that the first day on Ha Long Bay was packed with boats keeping the same timetable, and that a glass of water at meals was charged unless they brought their own bottle, though refills in the cabin were free. Their bus from Hanoi stopped at a silk shop on the way out and a souvenir shop on the way back. They liked the second day, on the Lan Ha side, much more, and kayaked on both days.

Crowds come up in 9 of the 123 Hera Grand reviews we have sorted by topic, and eight of those nine are negative or mixed overall; what guests complain about sets crowding against the fleet. The operator’s itinerary pages mention no shopping stops, so ask whoever books your transfer whether it makes any. If the state of the boat matters to you, ask the seller when the cabins were last refitted. If crowds matter more, the three-day trip at least gives you a day off the big boat’s route.

How does the one-night trip run?

Out at noon, back by 11:00. If you book the operator’s shuttle or limousine, it collects you in the Old Quarter between 07:45 and 08:30; the transfer is priced separately, and Hanoi to Ha Long covers the alternatives. You check in at the Tuan Chau lounge between 11:30 and 12:00, board at noon to a cold towel and a welcome drink, and eat lunch while Hera Grand heads out. The operator calls its timings approximate.

The afternoon goes to Sung Sot Cave at 16:00, and the activity list adds a swim or the climb up Titop Island. From 17:30 there is a sunset party with a cooking class, where the chef shows you how to make the floating rice cake. Happy hour runs from 17:30 to 18:30, two drinks buying a third. Dinner is at 19:30, out on deck when the weather allows. After dinner come squid fishing, the Sky Bar, a traditional costume show and a free herbal foot bath in your cabin. Massage costs extra.

Morning starts with tai chi on the sundeck at 06:15 and a light breakfast with pho and eggs cooked to order. At 07:30 you visit a pearl farm, by kayak or bamboo boat. Cabin checkout is 09:30, an early buffet lunch follows at 10:00 in the second-deck restaurant, and you land at Tuan Chau around 11:00. One listing puts you back in Hanoi at 14:30. Every activity is optional, according to the operator, and you may stay aboard.

Is the three-day trip on Hera Grand worth it?

Yes, in our view. On day two a smaller day boat collects you at 08:30 for Trinh Nu Cave, with kayaking and a swim, then Ba Trai Dao beach, which listings place in Lan Ha Bay, lunch on board and Me Cung Cave at 14:00. The January family found that day much calmer. When you are back on Hera Grand around 15:30, the sauna and the foot-soak basin are free to use, the operator says. The second dinner is the gala, on the sundeck or in Lily’s Restaurant. Day three adds the pearl farm and its museum before the same 11:00 landing.

The second night adds $225 in a Junior Suite and $350 in a Heaven Suite, on the listing’s sheets read 6 August 2026. That is 91 to 94% of the first night, close to the 94% median across 211 cabin pairs on 51 boats from the same listing site. Two days or three weighs the extra day.

What does the fare include, and what is extra?

The cabin, the meals in the programme, entrance tickets and the activities. The operator counts four meals on the one-night trip and seven on the three-day one. Its list also covers the cooking class, kayaking, afternoon tea, Wi-Fi, fruit and bottled water in the cabin, and a room set-up for an anniversary or honeymoon. Drinks, the Hanoi transfer, spa treatments and tips cost extra; what is not included shows how that compares.

One listing adds surcharges: a gala dinner on 24 or 31 December at $40 an adult and $30 a child, $20 a person over Lunar New Year (16 to 20 February for the 2026 holiday; ask for next year’s dates) and $10 a person on 2 September and on 30 April and 1 May. The operator’s itinerary pages ask for full payment 14 days before departure, and the cancellation line beneath is worded loosely enough to mean a full charge from that date. Get your seller’s cancellation terms in writing; cancellation policies explains what to ask.

Who is Hera Grand right for?

Couples who want space and a bathtub without paying for a pool or a big boat. An Earth Suite gives two people 60 m², a tub and a terrace for $335 a night on the August sheet, and on any of the cabin counts in circulation the boat sits well below the fleet median of 22; the small boats list collects others of that size, and best value sets the prices against other boats. A guest in November 2025 praised Minh and the team on board and liked that there are “only 13 in total, so a lot of privacy and not a crowded boat” (review). Families with a child under five should get the cabin confirmed in writing: the operator accepts a young child in every class, and one listing does not in the Earth Suite. The 70 m² Junior Connecting Suite is probably two Junior rooms joined by a door, and the January family booked an interconnecting room, but the sheet we hold has no price for it. That listing lets a child under four share free and charges 75% for ages four to eleven.

Who should look elsewhere?

Anyone who wants a pool or a jacuzzi, since neither appears on the operator’s pages for this boat. Anyone who would mind visible wear, given the January family’s review. And anyone who wants quiet water on a one-night trip, because the first afternoon follows the Sung Sot and Titop circuit that guests describe as packed; the quietest bay is the place to start. If the word luxury is why you are booking, compare the boats in our luxury list first.

What we could not confirm

The cabin count. The operator’s boat page and about page say 13, and its deck plan shows 13. The class table on the same boat page adds up to 14: six Junior Suites, two Junior Connecting Suites and two each of Ocean, Earth and Heaven. Three listings say 11. The deck plan draws three decks, a lower, an upper and a lounge deck.

Listings date the boat to 2016 or 2017, and the operator gives no year on the pages we read; how old is your boat explains why that matters less than the last refit. The operator and one listing call Hera Grand wooden, and another listing prints metal, which wooden hull or steel puts in context. Nobody publishes how many guests Hera Grand carries or how long it is.

Our read

Hera Grand sells big upstairs suites with a tub and private outside space at prices close to what many boats charge for their smallest cabin. The trade is an older-feeling boat on the crowded Sung Sot and Titop circuit. Book an upper-deck suite, take the three-day trip if you can, and get the cancellation terms in writing.

The review-count bar is on a log scale: the boats we can score run from 1 review to 515, so a straight scale would squash almost everything against the left edge.

This is not our score. We have not collected reviews of our own yet, and we do not reprint other people's — the words belong to the guests who wrote them. What we can tell you is the aggregate across the listings we track, and where Hera Grand Cruise sits against the 108 boats we can score: a median of 9.5 on 87 reviews. Scores in this bay cluster near the top (8–9.9), which is why we show you the review count as well. When we have enough reviews of our own to mean something they will appear here beside these, clearly marked as ours.

That number is what we collected and read. The score beside it is the average the listings publish, computed on 100.

Good to know

Who should look at something else
  • You want a pool or a jacuzzi; neither appears on the operator's Hera Grand pages
  • Wear and tear would spoil it for you; a family on a three-day trip in January 2026 called the boat a bit shabby
  • You want quiet water on a one-night trip; the first afternoon is Sung Sot Cave and Titop Island, and 8 of the 9 reviews we sorted that mention crowds are negative or mixed
What to ask before you pay
8
8 questions, each one tied to something this boat does not publish. Almost none of the cruise pages we surveyed tells you what to ask. Take this list to whoever quotes you.

The moneyWhere the spread hides

How much is the Hanoi transfer, and is it shared or private?
Our sources agree it is not in the fare, but none of them publishes the price. Ask for both options — the gap between a seat on a shared van and a private car is usually the biggest single add-on.
What is the single-occupancy supplement?
Not published by any source we read. Common on this coast and often +50% or more.
Child and infant rates?
Not published for this boat by any source we read — the child tables we found are the sellers’ own, identical across every boat they list. Ask for the age bands, not just the discount.

The logisticsThe mistakes that cost a morning

Confirm it is Tuan Chau Marina.
Named by one source only. The piers serving these bays are roughly twenty minutes apart and drivers do occasionally go to the wrong one.
Which stops does the 3 days · 2 nights add?
The route list we publish is the union across itineraries; no source says which legs the longer trip reaches. This is usually the reason to take it.

If it goes wrongNobody publishes this — get it in writing

What happens if the port closes for weather?
The provincial authority closes the port and every boat stays in. No source publishes this operator’s policy. Ask whether it is a refund or a date change, in writing.
Which cancellation ladder applies to your booking, and what deposit?
We found 7 different ladders across our sources for boats on this coast — free cancellation ends anywhere from 15 to 30 days out. It depends on who you book through, not on this boat. Get yours in writing before the deposit.
Is a cave closure refunded or substituted?
Caves close at short notice here. Substitution is normal; a refund is not. Worth knowing which you are agreeing to.
We do not host guest reviews yet, and we will not reprint a score we cannot audit. This list is what we would want in their place — take it to whoever quotes you, us included.

Cancellation — not a property of this boat

We checked every cancellation ladder in our sources. They differ by who you book through, not by which boat you sail: the same boat carries different terms on different listings. So we will not print one and call it Hera Grand Cruise's policy.

Across the 7 distinct ladders we found, free cancellation ends somewhere between 15 and 30 days before check-in. After that the fee climbs to 100%.

We show the most widely reported figure and recommend confirming it with the operator before you pay.

Is Hera Grand Cruise worth it at $120 when La Regina Royal Cruise is $128?

On the figures we can check, La Regina Royal Cruise offers a hull 2 years newer for $8 more. Hera Grand Cruise earns its place when that $8 is not there, or when a specific itinerary or departure pier decides it for you. Neither boat have we sailed, so read this as a comparison of published figures, not of experience.

Why does the price vary so much?

We have seen this boat advertised between $120 and $255 per person. The spread is seasonal rather than random: the low end is generally mid-week outside the dry season, the high end is the Christmas fortnight and Tết. The rest is bundling — cabin class, itinerary length, and whether the Hanoi transfer is in the fare.

Which pier does Hera Grand Cruise leave from?

Tuan Chau Marina, according to one of the sources we read — we could not corroborate it. The piers serving these bays are roughly twenty minutes apart and drivers do occasionally go to the wrong one, so name it when you arrange your own transfer.

What do you not know about this boat?

No source we checked publishes: capacity, length m, pool, jacuzzi. A further 5 figures rest on a single source. We would rather say that than fill the gap with a guess. If the operator sends us the figures we will publish them and date them.
